Art of Motion Pilates and Barre Studio hosted "Barre for Breast Cancer" a fundraiser Dec. 1 at the Plantation House at Legacy Lakes.

The event was led by Katherine Rice, a certified Pink Ribbon Post Rehabilitation Breast Cancer Specialist, Booty Barre, Core Barre and Pilates instructor. The fundraiser included a one-hour Barre class, followed by 30 minutes of orthopedic stretching.

Participants also enjoyed some well-earned treats while the raffle was held.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

"I chose this foundation because 91 percent of funds are directed to research and awareness programs," says Rice. "Breast cancer hit close to home for me, having lost my mother to this disease. It is very important to bring as much attention as possible to this cause, as the odds of this illness affecting you or someone dear to you is growing, and we all need to do our share.

"I was impressed with the generosity of our community supporting this event with donations to make it a success. This is a very busy time of year and several events were taking place, and many people donated although they had prior commitments. I am going to extend the donation period until Dec. 20 and will offer a class for those who donated but could not attend and others would like to donate.

"It was such a fun day with a great group of women supporting this important cause. I look forward to doing it again!" says Rice.
