The Pinecrest boys scored the first six points in overtime and went on to defeat Wyoming Seminary College Prep 51-47 at the Berwick Area High School Basketball Tournament Friday night.

The Patriots were scheduled to meet Berwick at 7:30 p.m. in the championship game on Saturday at the tournament being held in Pennsylvania.

Seth Callahan of the Blue Knights sank a three just before the end of regulation to send the game into overtime. But Trevion Wooten of the Patriots turned a steal into a basket to get the Patriots off on the right foot in the extra period.

Adam Cummings then went to the foul line twice and made all four free throws to give the Patriots a 50-44 lead. A three by the Blue Knights made it a one-possession game again before the Pats’ Brendan Ortiz made one of two free throws to complete the scoring.

Cummings finished with 16 points and seven rebounds. Ortiz and Justin Ray each scored nine points and Wooten had six.

Including a win by forfeit over Christian Faith Academy last week, the Patriots are now 5-1.

It's amazing how Pinecrest makes a trip to Pa. and will schedule private schools but is too afraid to put Union Pines on the regular season schedule.

i dont think pinecrest is scared to add union pines to the schedule but they are playing against tougher non conference opponents to prepare for a competitive conference

Tougher non-conference opponents...PLEASE say you didn't post a comment like that! Southern Lee will have a down year due to very limited talent. Let's play Jack Britt early for two games before the football players can join the team and play! What makes you think Wyoming Seminary in Pennsylvania is a tough opponent? Why don't they stay in NC to play instead of spending the money to go out of state, maybe the athletic director isn't doing his job and finding local teams to play. Anyway you look at it, sounds like the win column is being padded so things don't look as bad as they did last year!
