The North Moore wrestling team participated in the Chair City Classic, hosted by Thomasville, on Saturday. The Mustangs were one of seven teams in the event with the Mustangs and fellow Yadkin Valley Conference member North Rowan the only 1-A teams wrestling in the individual tournament.
The Mustangs had six wrestlers on hand, including senior Kyle Kidd, who won all three of his matches in the 195-pound class. Fellow senior Logan Stancil won two of his three matches in the 145-pound class, while sophomore Joe Davis and junior Will Nall were 2-2 in the 285- and 132-pound division, respectively. Senior Cole Garner (152 pounds) and sophomore Remington Summers (138) dropped all four of their respective matches.
Kidd, who was 1-A state runner last year at the 185-pound class, opened with a 4-1 decision over North Rowan’s Matt Tucker and followed with a 10-0 major decision over High Point Central’s Zach McClean. Kidd closed out the day by pinning Andrew’s Xavier Lovett.
Stancil narrowly dropped a 1-0 decision in his first-round match to Thomasville’s Lucas Williams. Stancil bounced back to win a 5-4 decision over Grimsley’s Jacob Coughlin. Stancil pinned High Point Central’s Kevin Gomez in his final match.
Davis also lost his first match of the tournament, falling to Reagan’s Leroy Scales. Davis won his next two matches, pinning North Rowan’s Caleb Anderson and High Point Central’s Jacquez Brown. Davis lost his final match of the day to Grimsley’s Jaycoa Silva.
Nall also lost his opening match to North Rowan’s Darrell Taylor and came back to win his next two matches with a 7-2 decision over Grimsley’s Ashwin Bhadury and pinning Reagan’s Tristan Merritt. Nall lost to Thomasville’s Corbin Wilson in his last match.
North Moore travels to Eastern Randolph Wednesday for a tri-match that includes Randleman. The Mustangs have their first home match Thursday, hosting Hoke County and Jordan-Matthews.
Both the tri-matches are scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
