Carthage Woman Faces Drug, Fraud Charges

A Carthage woman is facing charges on obtaining controlled prescription pills by fraud, Sheriff Lane Carter said.
Ann Margaret Butler, 44, of 400 Deep River Trail, is charged with six counts of felony obtaining controlled substance by misrepresentation to a healthcare provider, and nine counts of felony trafficking in opium.
The arrest stems from an investigation conducted by officers from the Moore County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics unit and involved an individual obtaining morphine, oxycodone and oxycontin by misrepresentation to a healthcare provider.
The investigation revealed that approximately 870 doses of morphine, oxycodone and oxycontin wwere obtained by fraud, Carter said. The prescription pills are Schedule II controlled substances.
Butler received a $15,000 secured bond and was placed in the Moore County jail.
