Mustangs Get First Win in Volleyball

After suffering a couple of closely contested losses to Yadkin Valley Conference foe North Rowan and cross-county rival O’Neal, the North Moore volleyball team bounced back for a 3-1 victory at South Davidson Tuesday.

The Lady Mustangs won the first two games easily 25-14 and 25-12, getting strong net play from senior Jalisa Davis and junior Dara Forrest, both who finished with seven kills each.

The host Lady Wildcats rallied to take the third game by a 25-21 score. The Mustangs got back on track in the fourth game, winning 25-18 for the 3-1 final score.

The victory was North Moore’s first of the season, giving it a 1-2 conference mark and 1-4 overall. The Wildcats dropped to 0-3 in league play and 0-4 overall.

Davis also had five blocks for the Mustangs while fellow senior Mone’ Little finished with five aces serving.

Earlier the North Moore junior varsity squad picked up its third straight victory, winning 25-8 and 25-16. Paige Garner led the team with five kills while teammate Leah Salzwedel had five aces.

The Mustangs host West Montgomery in a conference match Sept. 4. The Lady Warriors are currently on top of the league standings with a 4-0 league mark. The junior varsity match is scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m. followed by the varsity match.
