The Sandhills Community College Horticultural Gardens are noted for their beauty, and North Carolina barbecue is noted for its downright exceptional taste.

"Combine the two on a soft, Southern, Carolina evening, and you have a perfect combination," says a spokesman for the Sandhills Horticultural Society.

Two years ago, the Society hosted its first "Dinner in the Gardens," which was a huge success.

"It was a magical evening that probably could never be duplicated, so this year the Society is hosting a 'Picnic in the Gardens,'" says the spokesman. "Held once again under the stars in the beautiful SCC Horticultural Gardens, a sit-down picnic supper will be an event not to be missed by residents of the Sandhills."

On Thursday, Sept. 20, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., participants can enjoy a picnic supper catered by Pik N Pig and music by well-known local musician Glen Davis.

Festivities will be held at the Horticultural Gardens Ball Visitor Center grounds and Rosalie Terrace.

Cost for the event is $30 per person for Sandhills Horticultural Society members and $35 for nonmembers.

Tickets are $12 for children 10 and under (members), and $15 for nonmembers.

Part of the proceeds from the event will benefit the Landscape Gardening Department at Sandhills Community College.
