A Case of Nimby?

I read with interest Walter Bull’s article (Aug. 15) regarding the ecological health of Lake Pinehurst. A couple of things occurred to me:

  1. It seems to me from the article that the resort is more likely to accede to the wishes of the Lake Association than to do what might be good for the lake itself and to benefit the several thousand Pinehurst members and guests of the resort. An example of that would be the continued spraying of weed killers in the lake while, at the same time, checking the water quality vis a vis E. coli infrequently.

  2. It also seems what is happening on/to the lake is a classic example of “not in my backyard.” Only in this case it is not my backyard, but my lakefront.

If I am dead wrong about this, someone will surely excoriate me for it.

  1. Isn’t it nice (at least to me) to have a brouhaha that has nothing to do with the debacle occurring on Nov. 6?
