A Fayetteville man has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to inflict serious injury after police say he attacked another man after the two got in an argument in a car near the Traffic Circle Monday afternoon.

"It was chaos," said Pinehurst Police Sgt. Tina Sheppard.

John Franklin Thompson Jr., 38, was charged after he attacked another man, James Dale Hardy III, 33, of Fayetteville. The two men were arguing in a vehicle, when the car was stopped, the two men got out. Hardy then punched Thompson, police said, which led to the assault.

Hardy was charged with affray.

The two men were riding in the car with two females. The foursome was headed back home to Fayetteville after one of the women had just had eye surgery. The other woman was driving the vehicle. Thompson was in the front seat and Hardy in the rear.

An argument began over whether or not the group should stop at a pharmacy to get medication, police said.

Both men and one woman were taken to FirstHealth Moore Regional.

Sounds more like Carthage or Robbins folk fighting in Pinehurst

Why would it be Carthage or Robbins fighting? Pinehurst has had its battles lately with crime, just look at the Police Blotter sometimes. I would bet that the idiots they are are probably not really from NC since they live in Fayetteville, most of them, just like Moore County, are here from other States.

Gabby must not be from Pinehurst. She needs to look at the Pinehurst police blotter, which is printed weekly in the Pilot.

Mooremedic is probably correct. That's the sad part.

Actually, it sounds more like Fayetteville.

Wait a minute......they were from Fayetteville! What do you know.

Gabby is probably a transplant that didn't take. Not all who move here can adapt. Us 1 north will lead you out. You may also hit 220 west and then pick your route. If you are not welcome back where you were raised, just use I-95 south and jump off anywhere past the Florida sign. You may find comfort there. You can have the last word if it is "Bye".

And there's clarabelle again being classy and upbeat! Thanks for that. By the way, that woman in Nebraska got into some trouble for lying about stuff. And here you are lying about my age, when I am probably at least 10 or 20 years younger than you. Cheers!

Lastly, we will no longer allow comments on crime-related stories, especially stories that involve arrests or suspect descriptions. This is standard practice at most newspapers, and experience over the last few months has shown regularly that comments on these stories frequently are vile and equally injurious to the suspects, the victims and their respective families. The comments don't provide any meaningful information or dialogue. They often provide the opposite. John Nagy, July 27th

No Cooldaddy, I was actually born in the area and have lived here for 50 years and own a well know business in the area...I am well aware of how backwards the western part of our county is..Just drive through the Carthage or Robbins area and compare to Pinehurst/Village area.

Mr. Nagy is going to intervene if all of this bickering continues.

Maybe. Maybe not. It's all random.
