A Southern Pines man is facing drug charges after police stopped him for speeding on Midland Road, according to Southern Pines police.

Robert Lucas Sutphen Jr., 26, of Southern Pines, was arrested Friday night and charged with felony possession of cocaine, felony possession with intent to sell or deliver a controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of marijuana.

The arrest stems from an investigation by the patrol division during a vehicle stop for speeding. The incident took place at 11:05 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16 on Midland Road. in Southern Pines.

Sutphen Jr. appeared before a magistrate and was remanded to the Moore County jail under $25,000 bond pending a hearing on Aug. 27 in Moore County district court.
