Poplar Springs Missionary Baptist Church will hold revival services today (Wednesday) through Friday at 7 each evening.

The Rev. Bruce Hurst, pastor of Leak Spring Missionary Baptist Church, will be the guest preacher. The Rev. James McKinnon, pastor of Poplar Springs, invites everyone to attend.

Poplar Springs Missionary Baptist Church invites everyone to attend Sunday School at 9:45 a.m. and worship at 11 a.m. each week.

A musical appreciation program will be held Friday through Sunday at Elizabeth Chapel Free Will Baptist Church for Arza Adams. It begins at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 3 p.m. Sunday, with different singers. All are welcome to attend.

The Rev. Charles McKnight, pastor of New Zion A.M.E. Zion Church, and all of the members thank everyone who came out last Sunday for the annual homecoming. So many people from far and near attended. The theme was "Do You Have a Friend?"

The community was saddened to learn about the passing of Sue Addor Buffkin, who was born and raised in Addor, the village named after her family. She was very active in the community and well-liked. Her mother was the postmaster for many years until the small office was closed. Please keep the family in your prayers.

This past Sunday at Mount Pleasant Christian Church, several families were away for final summer getaways, and sickness kept others away. Prayers for safety and healing were offered for them.

In attendance for worship were Irene Seagroves Hair and her daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as the church celebrated Irene's 90th birthday. She turned 90 on Aug. 13. She is Mount Pleasant's oldest living member.

The congregation sang "Happy Birthday" to her during morning worship announcements. After the worship service, the congregation was invited to share the covered-dish meal in honor of Irene and her family. Many of her friends from the Spring Lake area, where she and her late husband, Bunch, lived for many years, attended the lunch.

This coming Sunday, the church will host Right Turn, the gospel group from Clinton. Everyone is invited to share this special time of worship and music, which begin at 6 p.m. Refreshments will be served in the fellowship hall afterward.

The youth groups will meet next Sunday evening to plan their back-to-school celebrations. This will be a Saturday trip to Jordan Lake for fun, fellowship and food. All youth are encourage to attend the planning meeting.

Cypress Presbyterian Church welcomes Tommy Taylor, a third-year seminary student, to lead the worship service this Sunday.

Beginning Sunday, Aug. 26, the Rev. Hedin will offer a Bible study class at 10 a.m. in the Cypress fellowship hall. This study will weave together our daily experiences with God.

The fall youth kickoff will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26, with a pool party. All youth in the community are invited to attend. Call the church at (910) 245-4731 for more details.

Holy Temple Church, on Anderson Road in Carthage, will have another clothes giveaway Friday morning.

Pastor Louise Kineil, of Synagogue of Christ, will speak at 2 p.m. Sunday at Union Grove, on Union Church Road in Carthage, where the pastor is Eldress Barkley. Pastor Kineil will also speak at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 7 at Stone's Chapel, where the Pastor is Overseer William Russell .

Synagogue of Christ, on Stage Road, will have its Family and Friends Day and celebrate its church anniversary at 2:30 p.m. Sept. 16. Dinner will be served. Worship services will not be held there Aug. 28. The church will travel to Greater Glory on Aug. 28-30. The pastor of Greater Glory is Eldress Joann Davis.

A missionary service titled "7 UPs" will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday at St. Ruth United Church of God in West End, where the Pastor is Eldress Lillian Kearns. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Body of Christ Outreach Ministries on Lemon Springs Road, where the pastor is the Rev. Larry Ray, will have its annual candlelight march at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Everyone is welcome.

St. Mary Church on Old Glendon Road, where the pastor is Eldress Betty Lee, will have its Fruit of the Spirit program at 7 p.m. Aug. 21.

Holy Temple Church will celebrate Elder Moore's pastoral anniversary Wednesday through Friday, Aug. 29-31, with services at 7:30 each night. The speakers will be Pastor Chesney, of Spruill Temple (Wednesday), Bishop Harley Johnson, of Action for Christ (Thursday), and Elderess Louise Kiniel, of Synagogue of Christ (Friday). The time is getting closer for Taylortown's "2012 Celebrations," which will be held Friday, Aug. 31, through Sunday, Sept. 2. There will be a dinner, dance and fashion show at the Southern Pines Elks Lodge starting at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 31.
