A Southern Pines man faces an attempted breaking and entering of a motor vehicle charge after police arrested him Friday shortly after they received a report of an attempted armed robbery in the parking lot of the State Employee’s Credit Union.
James Junior McNeill, 30, of 444 Gaines Street, is charged with attempted breaking and entering of a motor vehicle. He remained in the Moore County jail Monday under a $50,000 secured bond.
Police first responded to the credit union parking lot for a report of an attempted robbery. Shortly after the report, police said they had arrested a suspect and charged him with attempted breaking and entering of a motor vehicle. They said that the investigation revealed that no attempted robbery took place.
Initially police received a report that one suspect, a black male described between 5-foot-6 and 5-foot-8 in height and between 150 and 160 pounds wearing black clothes and an orange bandana, fled the scene and was last seen running to the wooded area behind Cracker Barrel after the incident.
