Congratulations to the two Moore County high school athletic teams recognized for the distinguished honor of having the highest GPA in the state among teams of the same sport.
This recognition is not awarded according to the size of a school but from among all schools in the state, regardless of size.
North Moore High School’s women’s cross country team was recognized by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association for having the highest GPA in the state among almost 400 high schools.
The team’s cumulative GPA was 3.84. North Moore’s varsity volleyball team also received the distinction of having one of the top three highest GPAs in the state.
Union Pines High School’s Lady Vikings tennis team was also recognized by the association for having the highest team GPA among all women’s tennis teams in the state — an overall GPA of 3.808.
The Lady Vikings’ overall record for the season was 17-1. They have won 25 conference championships in the past 31 years, coached by N.C. Hall of Fame coach John Frye.
