Police Searching for Suspect in Attempted Robbery

The Southern Pines Police Department is searching for two suspects in an attempted armed robbery in the parking lot of the State Employees' Credit Union on U.S. 15-501 Friday afternoon.

Police have received reports that two black males were seen running on Richards Street toward Pinehurst Avenue taking off clothes as they were running.

An initial report said that one suspect, a black male described between 5-foot-6 and 5-foot-8 in height and between 150 and 160 pounds wearing black clothes and an orange bandana, fled the scene and was last seen running to the wooded area behind Cracker Barrel after the incident.

The investigation is still ongoing.
