Hole-in-One: William Stanley Jr., of Rocky Mount, Va., scored his ace March 25, at the Hyland Golf Club, while playing hole No. 6, 135 yards, using his 6-iron. His playing partners were Ken Mullins and Bill Hanline.

Matchmakers: A group of six local golf clubs hold tournaments at member clubs each golf season. Play for April was held at Foxfire April 18, on the West Course.

Flight 4 – Joyce Reitler, tied at 25, with Sandy Armstrong; Millie Mills, 26; Eloise Burns, tied at 27, with Barbara Gruninger, Sue Leary and Betty Winslow.

The Ninettes played April 16, on the back nine of the East Course. The tournament was “blind hole” (five holes picked at random after the game and using ½ handicap). Flight 1 – Margaret Pluff, 18 (MOC); Linda Schubert, 18 (MOC). Flight 2 – Sandy Cebrick, 18.5 (MOC); Marcia Osborne, 18.5 (MOC).

Whispering Woods: The Women’s Golf Association played April 10 and 12 in their spring handicap tournament. First, Pat Punch, 129. Second, Tina Burns, 136. Third, Fanny Maines, 138.

On April 17 the Women’s Golf Association played in a two best low nets for each foursome contest. The winning foursome included Shirley Smedley, Lorraine Stanton, Barbara Woodruff and Mary Pat Curl, with 117.

Midland: The Ladies Golf Association played April 12 in their plate day tournament. Dee Hancock was the 18-hole winner with 75. Linda Parke and Bev Braunscheidel tied at 33, to win the nine-hole division.

The Men’s Golf Association played a Nassau tournament April 11 in a two best balls of the foursome format. Overall winners were Joel Rabdau, Steve Zachary, Ted Meyer and Paul Aschmetat with net 120. Harvey Koonce won low gross with 77.

In a nine-hole, two-man best ball competition, the winners were Don Palmer and Ken Batchelder with net 29. Mike Lloyd won low gross with 41.

Knollwood: The Men’s Golf Association played April 17 in a two best balls of the foursome contest. Harvey Koonce, Jack Henderson, Don Palmer, Pete Feeney, 51; Paul Cottam, Bill Bradley, Clark Russell, Dick Heilman, 54; Wallace Gourley, Vick Kendall, Ken Batchelder, John Conroy, 56.

Ron Flock and Harvey Koonce tied at 37 for low gross. Jack Henderson won low net with 28. Paul Cottam won closest to the pin.

Pinehurst: Dave Williams, of Pinehurst, shot his career low round of 69 while playing at Legacy Golf Links March 14. His playing partners were John Petersen, of New York, Bill Yarish, of Seven Lakes, and Don Zeilstra, of Pinehurst.

The competition was for the Eagles Cup, a handicap game with each twosome following this format: best ball for first six holes, alternate shot for the next six holes, and the last six holes a captain’s choice. The winners – Gross: Pat Bickoff and Angie Forge, 85; Pam Congelosi and Nancy Kuhary, 90. Net: Darla Howe and Barbara McCleneghen, 63; Donna McClary and Shirley Sterling, 65.

The Ladies Niners played April 16 and the game was “throw put par-4s” on the Palmer Course. Flight A – Pat Hruska, 17; Brenda Tillman, 20; Sook Shin, 21 (MOC); Mira Weber, 21 (MOC). Flight B – Ellen Harris, 23; Norma Loase, 26; Margie Spory, 21 (MOC); Lillian Johnston, 21 (MOC); Pat Brennan, 25 (MOC).

Southern Pines: The Par Seekers played an even holes tournament, net scores only, and 50 percent of each player’s handicap used for scoring. Flight 1 – Barbara Michetti, 35; Elaine Workman, 40; Florence DeSandy, 42. Flight 2 – Pat Hoffman, 37; Kathy Waldron, 38; Rosemary Dietrichson, 39.

Longleaf: The Men’s Golf Association played April 18 and the game was two best balls of the foursome with full handicaps used for scoring.

The winners: Terry Carraher, Joe Carter, Ted Gleason, Blind Draw, 34 under par. Dick Baldwin, Fritz Baukhages, Ted Buschman, Blind Draw, 32 under par.

Lee Moore was the blind draw for both teams.

Pinewild: The Men’s Golf Association played on the Holly Course April 12 in a three best ball Stableford game. Team winners: Andy Gwaltney, Allan Vernier, Tony Alvarez, Bob Blandford, 132; Scott Parker, Jim McMahon, Jim Keffer, Jack Butler, 128; Tom Cecka, Jack Farrell, Dave Blessing, Ray Slywka, 127.
