Well, with that image, we should have him in about an hour. :-)

This is not this guys first time,he is too well disguised to have been a first time offender.

You would think with all of the technology we have today surveillance cameras could get better photographs. They could also be installed at a normal height to capture every detail of the criminals face.
babiehop 1 year, 1 month ago
May not be the best quality image, but no doubt, someone recognizes this person. Glad this was released to the public although seems a little slow. Thankfully, the victim is still alive even though this thug has no respect whatsoever for human life. Criminals like this don't deserve to walk the street and cannot blame their behavior on the condition of the ecomony. Someone like this would have robbed the place if it had a "Help Wanted" sign posted. I would gladly donate to a fund for reward for their capture and conviction.

babiehop- I hope someone does recognize this swine, however I have a strong feeling that the company he keeps probably does not read the newspaper.........
Bflat 1 year, 1 month ago
I agree with most everything here, but there are criminals that do work that commit crimes.
babiehop 1 year, 1 month ago
Hopeful, you are probably right, but they could plaster reward posters in all the Kangaroo marts at the very least.
Bflat, you are right. However poorly stated, I was trying to make the point that there is no excuse, none whatsoever, for this type of violent criminal behavior. The person who was shot didn't deserve to be a victim, no matter what circumstances are.

Agreed babiehop!
cantstandya 1 year, 1 month ago
I might have missed it but was the young man able to offer much or any information on the the person who shot him, realizing he was going through the process of just trying to stay alive was probably most important at the time but has law enforcement been able to interview him for additional info?
Tom_Embrey 1 year, 1 month ago
cantstandya - SPPD has gone to talk to the clerk who was shot during the robbery. They remain quite tight-lipped on what he said, as this is an on-going investigation. They don't want to release anything that could harm their case, or put anyone in any further danger.

That's definitely a Dickies hoodie... the gun looks very similar to a ruger .22. Hard to tell though.
The tags on the shoes could be a be giveaway.
fugitiveguy 1 year, 1 month ago
The door should be locked from the outside after a certain hour. A camera should be set up where the clerk can photograph all who want to enter prior to him hitting a button that would open the door. That way, we would have a nice close up of the perp. I'm not a techie but this doesn't seem like a hard or expensive proposition. Other than that, these stores should think long and hard about staying open all night.

" I would gladly donate to a fund for reward for their capture and conviction."
Great idea, it probably wouldn't take that much money for someone to rat out this piece of trash if they could remain anonymous.
cantstandya 1 year, 1 month ago
All in all the Souther Pines Police department does a pretty good job, this is evidenced by the overall number of crimes that are NOT committed in relationship to other areas who do have high crime rates,I'm confident that all measures they take are being well thought out and soon someone will come forward with info, and yes it is a good idea to not let out more information than needed so I would rather wait than to give a heads up to this criminal.

looks short and chubby to me...
cantstandya 1 year, 1 month ago
Mux,I agree, but it also appears he has multiple layers of clothing on maybe to throw off identification, really hard to tell,I do think someone will have to give LEO's some info,it may not be until they have a perp in for another crime and can use leverage to get them to talk but this looks to be pretty slim pickins as far as identification goes.

"Small build"..."short in stature"....it is the gun that makes this guy big...and tough....and dangerous. Take away the gun and this thug would get his ass kicked six ways to Sunday. Unfortunately, there are a group of people in this country that want to allow this guy to have his gun. It is their belief that if you don't like being accosted by a thug with a gun, you should go out and buy a bigger gun than the bad guy has. This all makes perfect sense to that group of people as well as the gun industry. In a way,I guess, they are trying to help America by creating more jobs for the weapons manufacturers, the hospitals, doctors, lawyers, prisons and for the undertakers.

" Unfortunately, there are a group of people in this country that want to allow this guy to have his gun."
Are you saying this is one of those "fast and furious" guns distributed by the Eric Holders ATF?

" Unfortunately, there are a group of people in this country that want to allow this guy to have his gun."
So if we outlawed handguns this would have never happened? I suppose we could just outlaw robbery, wouldn't that be just as effective?
theonewithsense 1 year, 1 month ago
If guns were outlawed he wouldn't use a gun during the robbery because he wouldn't want to break the law.

Sign for convenient store counter :: This counter is protected by a foot controlled shotgun that will blow your D^%$ clean off...Have a nice day...
cantstandya 1 year, 1 month ago
England has some of the toughest gun control laws of any country yet they have a higher crime rate than the U.S.,criminals will continue with or without weapons, but if they take the weapons out of the hands of law abiding citizans than if people think it's bad now wait until the criminals know you are not armed, crime will never stop but if our judicial system can find an economical means of punishment that would go along way in prevention, many of these repeat offenders have no fear of incarceration,it's more like a second home for many, even in self defense the victims who do over power or shoot the would be criminals spend a fortune in their own defense,I feel safer here than in many other areas since I know many citizans are carrying and are armed for defensive purposes not for criminal activity.

Don't forget, guys and girls, that we have a contingent in these blogs that believe that if you are unarmed then the thugs won't hurt you. They also believe that if you are armed and have a chance to exchange fire with the thug then you might hit an innocent bystander. They refuse to believe that an armed hundred pound woman, or for that matter a sixty year old man with arthritis can equal a two hundred pound thug...and JER you know that nobody advocates for criminals owning firearms...in fact did you know that there are laws specifically addressing that problem? That's probably why you see so few criminals waving guns around...because it's against the law!! If you know of such a group then how about naming them in this blog!!!! And if you think that being armed is dangerous how about telling that to the families of the thirty two students killed at Virginia Tech who were shot at the gunman's leisure because NOBODY was armed??? Of course, I forgot to tell the readers that this is a long standing issue with JER...he believes that he can protect himself and his family with his charm and good looks!!

JER. so naive...
JER 1 year, 1 month ago
Relative to my comment that there is a group of people who want the criminals to have a gun: Please see many of the comments posted above. These are the people who think that ANY form of gun control is an attack on the right to bear arms and will result in the repeal of the 2nd amendment to the constitution, which will then bring an end to the USA, causing all citizens to be forced to worship Islam with their same sex partner that they will be required to live with. So, if I am so "naive", please, enlighten me. How will you address the problem of criminals having and using guns without some form of gun control?
JER 1 year, 1 month ago
cantstandya: The United States has the most crime, by far. It is almost double that of the UK. But, of course, that fact does not work well with your premise, so you chose to make something up that did. Also, what are "citizans"? Are they your imaginary people in the UK that commit all those crimes you speak of?
JER 1 year, 1 month ago
skylinefirepest: When you don't have charm and good looks, you have to rely on Mr. Smith and his same sex partner, Mr. Wesson. Just because you feel insecure without your pacifier doesn't mean everybody does. It really does seem to irritate you that some people can go through life without being afraid of what's around the next bend in the road.
DaveyNC 1 year, 1 month ago
Really, JER. I don't know of anyone who wants to put guns in the hands of criminals. Ok, well, maybe Eric Holder, but other than that Obama ate a dog.

JER, The statistics that I mentioned are from a report that the U.N made, but it was conducted in 06 and per capita,I have not made these numbers up but with that said if you feel safer without owning a weapon than just stay unamrmed, myself I prefer a 12gage pump and use steel glazing points after I remove the shot, sawed off and capable of hitting something at close range that will totally disable any intruder that gets past my dog's
MikeNC 1 year, 1 month ago
I would imagine that them steel glazing points would leave quite a mark cantstandya. What advantage do they have over 00 Buck. I would suppose that they might take several twists and turns in various directions after they penetrate, but have a very limited effective range ...Mike
cantstandya 1 year, 1 month ago
Mike, Your correct but they do leave a difficult wound to control the bleeding as the have a tendency to be irregular and do not penetrate as deeply but will stop one in their tracks quite quickly,I prefer to stop the assailant than to be defending myself if needed for murder, with a 18 inch barrel and at 20 feet away mine will make contact with a spread of about 8 to ten 10 feet which is all I need, flechettes would serve the save purpose but are more deadly and I can't afford to be defending myself for murder, really tried the points after a friend of mine advised me to try them on a coyote problem I was having, the rock salt did not seem to keep them at bay for long, the points are somewhat more painful but not quite as deadly, now willie petes are the answer to any problems but I believe they are outlawed as I have not seen of their use since being in the service, they truly will deter any and all would be crooks,

DaveyNC: I certainly am not in favor of putting guns in criminals hands. What would make you think that? I am asking how any of you gun enthusiasts plan on keeping guns out of the hands of criminals? So far, I have seen no response to that question. The only response any of you seem to have is outlined in cantstandya's diatribe on how to inflict maximum damage with the use of a sawed-off shotgun.
Thatcher 1 year, 1 month ago
MikeNC and cantstandya-- You guys should try the Model 629 Stealth Hunter .44 Magnum. Great gun, and you'll be suprised how it handles. I keep it in my house, and take it on hunting trips (waiting for Yukonjohn to tell me it's worthless against bears in Alaska!).
Thatcher 1 year, 1 month ago
JER-- I'll be happy to respond to your question about how to keep guns out of the hands of criminals. If a person is convicted of a felony, they may never possess a gun, and if they do, a minimum 20 year prison sentence. Using a gun while committing a crime? Minimum 20 year sentence. Employ these two concepts and enforce them, and you'll solve the problem. The problem is criminals using guns, not guys like me owning guns. Be well!!
cantstandya 1 year, 1 month ago
Thatcher,Mainly just keep that sawed off 12gauge for critters and keeping the coyotes at bay,not much into hunting anymore unless they become a nuisance, used to let people hunt on our land but found that was not safe anymore finding too many beer cans around their stands, now we just go to Thomas Brothers buthchers in Sanford, got lazy I guess, but if things don't settle down your choice of weapons might be a better deterrent than what I have.

He had a bad home life and childhood. He was opressed and held down by the man, therefore forcing him to turn to a life of crime. It's a very vicious cycle.

Would think that there might be a chance this perp either sells or gives the weapon to someone else in order to get rid of it,doubt if they would just throw it away, there may be a chance,a small one at that, but if they do hand it off to another, that person could let LEO's know,I know wishful thinking, but a slim hope is better than none, someone knows this criminal.

Thatcher: Thanks for giving your solution for keeping criminals from having guns. I hate to point out that your fellow gun enthusiasts have been making a joke about how laws don't keep guns out of criminal hands. I'm guessing they don't agree with your solution. Hell, in previous threads, I've suggested that the penalty for using a gun in the commission of a crime should be an automatic death sentence and they said I was anti patriotic and trying to scrap the 2nd amendment. But at least you offered a possible solution, which is more than the others have done.

Chris has returned to his home and his wife, after a long stay at UNC's hospital. Keep him in your prayers as he heals and returns to his life. All of his friends continue to count on the Southern Pines Police Department to find the man who did this. When he's found, I hope he gets eaten alive by K9 units.

4 typos in such a brief article. Doesn't anyone proof read anymore?
fugitiveguy 1 year, 1 month ago
Glad to hear this man is on the mend. The shooter should have his right hand lopped off when he is caught. He could not be executed because he would invoke the racial justice act.
cantstandya 1 year, 1 month ago
It would be a long shot but this person either bought this weapon from someone, stole it,or was given it,one of the resources of information may come from one of the above who may know something as to where this perp got the weapon, maybe,it,s a long shot but someone has to know something and hopefully if they can pass that information to LEO's who may be able to piece something together, just a shot in the dark but right now it appears they have very little to go on.
