"G ood afternoon. Thank you for calling radio station WING, your No. 1 source for news talk radio. Can I help you?"
"Uh, yeah, I'd like to talk to the person who schedules your 'Citizens Talk Back' segment. You know, the one where ordinary guys like me can comment on stuff?"
"That would be me, sir. I'm the producer. My name's Georgette. What would you like to comment on?"
"I'd like to talk about how that Geraldo Rivera guy said that Trayvon Martin got shot because he was a black man wearing a hoodie. That really burned me up. I mean, is that a stupid, racist thing to say or what?"
"Yes, sir, I understand. And if you don't mind my asking, I assume you're a liberal?"
"Ummm ... yeah, I guess so. Why?"
"And can you tell me the last time you publicly criticized Bill Maher?"
"What?"
"Bill Maher, the guy who hosts that show on HBO. Have you ever denounced him for calling Sarah Palin a nasty name a couple of years ago?"
"Well, no. I didn't even see that. Or hear about it. What does that have to do with - "
"Oh, I'm sorry, sir, liberals are not allowed to make any criticism of anything anyone on Fox News or conservative talk radio says, no matter how stupid, unless they've publicly criticized Bill Maher. It's a new rule. So to speak."
"What? Since when?"
"Since Rush Limbaugh called that young woman who testified before Congress about birth control a slut and a prostitute. Conservatives knew there was no way to defend that, so they pulled up an old quote from Bill Maher where he called Governor Palin a nasty name. That way, they could go, 'What Rush said was bad, but liberals didn't say anything about what Bill Maher said, so they can't complain about it.' They said it so many times on Fox that it became a rule. We even call it the Bill Maher rule."
"That's ridiculous."
"Let me see if there's some other way to help. Have you ever said anything critical of Maxine Waters or Shirley Jackson Lee?"
"I don't even know who they are!"
"Don't lie to me, sir. Every liberal knows everything those two have said, and their failure to abhor them every single day is an example of left-wing hypocrisy."
"Let me get this straight. Someone on the right says something sexist, racist, or just plain stupid and mean, and I can't say anything about it unless I've gone out of my way to criticize something stupid or mean or outrageous some liberal has said?"
"Yes, sir."
"And let me guess ... you get to pick the thing I should have complained about, and even if I've never heard of it, I'm a hypocrite because I didn't already fall all over myself to deplore it?"
"Now you get it!"
"No, I really don't. Do you demand that conservatives do that? I mean, I've seen some really nasty signs about President Obama. There was the one Photoshopped to make him look like a witch doctor with a bone through his nose. There's that bumper sticker someone put out that said "Don't Re-Nig In 2012" and an Obama symbol with a line through it. When someone comes on your station to complain about Bill Maher or Rahm Emmanuel, do you ask them if they've ever denounced those things?"
"Oh, no, sir! That wouldn't be honest. It would be trying to stifle debate!"
"Of course it would."
"Oh, by the way, you can't ever say anything about racism by the Republicans or the tea party unless you've publicly denounced Senator Robert Byrd."
"Isn't he dead?"
"Yes, but he was in the KKK."
"That was before I was born!"
"Doesn't matter. I'm sorry, sir, it doesn't look like we're going to be able to help you today. Thanks for calling WING, fair and balanced news talk radio!"
"This is [bad word]."
"You don't have to use vulgar language, sir!"
"Rick Santorum did!"
"Yes, but you're not allowed to mention it unless you complained about Joe Biden saying ... Hello? Hello?"

im-a-harleyguy .... I read your disgusting comments from the other night. No vulgar comments from me were directed towards anyone, let alone towards your wife. My post was simple to understand...you and Dusty are one and the same. If you said something about me it would not be a problem. But trash talking Diane was a poor choice. I expect a face to face apology today.
We can meet up in the Walmart parking lot in S.P. Or any conveniently located place will be fine. I will clear my calendar today just for you. Just post the time here quickly. I will park in the parking lot across from the main doors, the center entrance to avoid any confusion. I will be easy to spot. I'll park far back in the lot to be plainly visible. I'll be driving a green over tan Ford Ranger pick up. I will have the tail gate down and you will see a bunch of dirt residue from what I was hauling the other day. The truck and myself will be easy to notice. I'll be wearing blue jeans, a gray or green T-shirt and a tan ball cap. It's going to be perfect bike weather. Ride your Harley down.
I won't do any back and forth banter of any type here in this thread. What you said was very plain to see by all. No need of further discussion here on the forum. Just provide me the time and I'll be there. That will be the only comment I will reply to. One thing for certain Harleyguy...Your sickening comments will not stand. Words of which you stated directly to me about my wife will not be ignored or passed by. There will be a quick resolution of either today with us working it out or tomorrow by another method.. Just state the time and we will get this behind us or I will walk it through the backdoor tomorrow, which I hate to do; but will resolve it there if necessary. Your choice....Mike

Uh, Mike? Does this have anything to do with this article? Great article Dusty!
Bigguy 1 year, 1 month ago
So I will first say that Spike Lee is a jerk for tweeting that address he thought Was Mr. Zimmerman, what the heck did he think he was doing, or going to accomplish? So now that I have said something about a liberal, I can call Geraldo the the biggest ass ever! His own son was ashamed of him, there are even pictures of him wearing a hoodie sitting next to Billo the clown O'Reilly. If that is the new rule, I'll try to be fair and balanced. Great article Dusty!

I guess you going to wait until June to write about Obamacare? Or are you only going to write about it if it goes your way?
bufordsplay 1 year, 1 month ago
Just remember!!! Everyone of these people that is threatening Zimmerman is an Obama supporter from Spike Lee to the Black Panthers. If Zimmerman's last name was Gonzalez we would not even be discussing it and if Zimmerman won the Nobel Peace Prize the media would be calling him a Latino. The Left continues to push this nation in a direction that They are going to regret.

Hey, bufords: Ever find that quote where Obama said in his books that seeing Louis Farrakhan speak was the high point of his life? The one that you said was in his book? Because I've got the books and I couldn't find it.
If, as I suspect, that claim was just another bit of raving falsehood from someone deep in the throes od Obama Derangement Syndrome, then why should anyone take this last statement of yours seriously?
The Left continues to push this nation in a direction that They are going to regret.
If anyone makes the Left regret anything, it won't be anonymous trolls on a message board.

You got a topic you think needs writing about, BigD, they're always taking op-eds for publication. Of course you can't hide your name when you do that, so I guess you'll just have to live with the butthurt caused by knowing you don't get to pick my topics.

MikeNC 1 day, 12 hours ago im_a_harleyman 0 minutes ago ...btw - DR and I share many of the same views. I don't know him personally and probably never will. Too Funny...I bet you two share ALL of the same views and KNOW eack other VERY personally....Mike
Im_a_harleyman 1 day, 12 hours ago "MikeNC - Too Funny...I bet you two share ALL of the same views and KNOW eack other VERY personally....Mike" I imagine I know "Diane" much better.........much much better :)
If you didn't mean "know" in the same sense that harleyman used it, why are you so upset? No, you know exactly what you meant, and harley gave you back some of your own medicine. Deal with it.
fugitiveguy 1 year, 1 month ago
DR, everybody but perhaps Harley and you know he went to far. I have had Harley on my own mental ignore list for a long time because he pretty much all he does is childish insulting replies which most of us do from time to time but with him its practically all he does. I never saw anything of any value posted under his name so I just ceased to respond to him.
fugitiveguy 1 year, 1 month ago
As far as your article today goes, it is based upon phony premise(s) to which I will not waste time today trying to rebut.
dustyrhoades 1 year, 1 month ago
I just love how fg can't stop himself from commenting about a post from someone he claims not to read.
DR, everybody but perhaps Harley and you know he went to far.
How do you know? You say you don't read him. Or does "ignore" mean something different in your dictionary?
dustyrhoades 1 year, 1 month ago
As far as your article today goes, it is based upon phony premise(s) to which I will not waste time today trying to rebut.
Thanks for reading!
geoffcutler 1 year, 1 month ago
He was suggesting that Dusty and Harley are the same person. It had nothing to do with homosexuality.
dustyrhoades 1 year, 1 month ago
Then why is HE so upset about the use of the word "know?" Why emphasize "VERY personally"?
Sorry, Geoff, that dog won't hunt. You know what he was saying, and so does he, and now he's all indignant. Of course, he's not going to do squat to harleyman, and everyone knows that, too.
fugitiveguy 1 year, 1 month ago
I do not "respond" to his posts for reasons I outlined. Its really not that complicated. I don't mind differing points of view but when they near 100% childish insults why bother? I'll check in later, think I will get some exercise.
fugitiveguy 1 year, 1 month ago
"He was suggesting that Dusty and Harley are the same person. It had nothing to do with homosexuality."
It seemed pretty clear to me, too. I think it was just an excuse for the disgusting juvenile remarks about his wife. It was below the belt for this (or any) forum.
geoffcutler 1 year, 1 month ago
Dusty, you'll have to trust me this time. I know what he was suggesting, and it wasn't what you think.
dustyrhoades 1 year, 1 month ago
I don't mind differing points of view but when they near 100% childish insults why bother?
Indeed, why bother? Why bother commenting-- repeatedly-- about posts you claim to ignore?
Love ya, fg. You're a never ending source of chuckles.
MikeNC 1 year, 1 month ago
Just what I expected. You 'two' can always figure out the intent of any statement until it is convenient not to. Your normal posts are usually from the bottom of the barrel and people have learned to expect and accept such. That's no 'attack', just factual as anyone can click on the two names you use and then click on comments and read all the trash you have ever posted. My comments seldom take a low road and they two can be read. My meaning was obvious and such expert and skilled debaters and bloggers like yourself only got it wrong because it fit your intent. Tomorrow I will see if those on Pennsylvania Avenue have concerns over such public comments; especially on your routine basis or if they too expect and accept them...Mike
dustyrhoades 1 year, 1 month ago
Yes, you do know, Geoff, and the fact that you and fg are pretending you don't is to say the least, disingenuous. I don't know why I'm disappointed. I should learn to expect this sort of thing from the right.
dustyrhoades 1 year, 1 month ago
Yeah, Mikey, w'ell also see if your challenging harley to a fight causes them any concern. I expect you'll be backpedaling like crazy from that, too, to save your posting privileges here. Good luck with that!
AFCHIEF 1 year, 1 month ago
DR, once again at the stem of all the slander and name calling. As for Bill Maher, he is the same as Rush only on the liberal side. BOTH are idiots. But we are suppose to give Maher a free pass!
dustyrhoades 1 year, 1 month ago
Ace, if you're going to use the word 'slander" in every other post, you should at least learn what it means.
And as for "name calling": every time you bring that up, it's a clear sign to me that you've got no answer to what I said, so all you can do is complain about the way I said it. Since your first few posts here were name-calling, there's no way I'm giving it any other weight.
AFCHIEF 1 year, 1 month ago
DR, so I see you spend your Sundays trolling the blogs. Get out and enjoy the weather.
dustyrhoades 1 year, 1 month ago
Ha. Is there anything sillier than a person who posts constantly on a blog making a snarky comment that someone else is posting a lot on the very same blog?
AFCHIEF 1 year, 1 month ago
DR, just count the post on this blog alone DR 13, me 3. Got to go, horse racing today at the Fair Barn
dustyrhoades 1 year, 1 month ago
I think I just found something sillier....counting posts.
skylinefirepest 1 year, 1 month ago
Actually I'm surprised that the Pilot didn't pull the trike juvenile's remark. It was not called for and just shows the continued childishness of the writer. Harley is way too much of a coward to actually meet Mike and apologize LIKE A MAN!! Shows us all what the BIG BIKER actually is made of!
Bigguy 1 year, 1 month ago
AF when has any Dem asked for Bill Mahers support, when have the kissed his rear end when they have not fallen in step with Maher? It has never happened. Yes Maher may have donated money to Obamas super PAC , but I doubt it was solicited. From the chairman of the republican committee Michael Steel, to Trent Lott, John Bohner, and others have had to apologize to Rush when they were in the right. I'm a liberal, I could care less about Bill Maher or Spike Lee, they have no sway over thier party what so ever.
geoffcutler 1 year, 1 month ago
Dusty, you are wrong, okay? Believe or not, even you can be wrong. I know what Mike was talking about because we talked about it long before he made the comment. He's suggesting, right or wrong, that you and Harley are one and the same person. That Harley is your anonymous handle. I've considered the possibility myself. Until Harley tells us who he is, (something that you have commanded of other posters on here, calling them cowards, Mike is likely to think, as will I, that Harley is you. It has nothing to do with homosexuality despite what you think. You read him wrong.
geoffcutler 1 year, 1 month ago
Harley, you could quickly and easily clear the matter up, if you wanted to, and probably even get Mike to take back what he originally said. All you have to do is identify yourself.
geoffcutler 1 year, 1 month ago
I'm not calling you a coward, and I understand perfectly. I don't care if folks want to post anonymously, and I understand why some wish to, for the reason you bring up. It's your friend Dusty who has called people cowards for posting anonymously. This is about us, rightly or wrongly, thinking that you and Dusty are the same person. It isn't, nor never was, about homosexuality. It is you and Dusty who don't understand. Email me. I'll keep your identity confidential and will apologize to you for being wrong in my assumptions.
dustyrhoades 1 year, 1 month ago
Hey, Geoff, why don't you and Mike go get to "KNOW yourselves VERY personally".
Since that phrase doesn't mean the same thing to you as it does to everyone else, I'm sure you won't be offended.
dustyrhoades 1 year, 1 month ago
geoff: harleyman has e-mailed me. We are not the same person. Now, if you want to call me a liar, go right ahead, and we'll deal with that.
geoffcutler 1 year, 1 month ago
I find it odd you keep saying I think you're a coward. I don't, and believe people should have their right to anonymity on here if it is what they choose. And I'll say it again. Both of you misinterpreted what Mike was saying.
Dusty, well, I guess you've settled it, then.
justmyopinion 1 year, 1 month ago
So - I am done apologizing! And trust me .........i am not a coward!
Now, if you want to call me a liar, go right ahead, and we'll deal with that.
Sounds like Obamacare is handing out testosterone injections

All high school hurt and ready to quit posting one minute, and back to name-calling and personal insults the next. "Idiots," are we? Don't ever leave us, Harley...we love ignoring you, and it's time now to get back to that.
dustyrhoades 1 year, 1 month ago
Harley: geoff doesn't mind when his buddies on the Right throw punches. He only gets upset and turns into the Civility Police when you hit back.
geoffcutler 1 year, 1 month ago
Dusty, point out fg's name-calling and personal insults. I don't see them. You confuse name-calling and personal insults with someone pointing to them.
dustyrhoades 1 year, 1 month ago
Geoff, the readers have only to look at your ridiculous defense of MikeNC's comment and your attacks on harley to see exactly what i'm talking about. I know you'll never admit it.
So feel free to go KNOW yourself VERY personally.
By that, of course, I mean "engage in a voyage of self discovery resulting in greater awareness."
geoffcutler 1 year, 1 month ago
Dusty, readers only have to look at your misinterpretation of Mike's comment and the disgusting things said about his wife to know I'm not the name-caller on this site. You've got a lock on that.
dustyrhoades 1 year, 1 month ago
And they only have to look at your last sentence to realize I'm right about everything I've said about you.
dustyrhoades 1 year, 1 month ago
I don't see them.
Sad, if true.

Thatcher 1 year, 1 month ago
What a perfect Sunday! Great church service this morning (and the choir was awesome), then lunch with my wife and youngest daughter, then a great walk with our wonderful dog at the park with perfect weather. Did I miss anything here? Uh oh.
fugitiveguy 1 year, 1 month ago
"Dusty, point out fg's name-calling and personal insults. I don't see them."
Don't worry, it might take him a while but a careful search of all my archived comments will turn up something no matter how far back he needs to go.
fugitiveguy 1 year, 1 month ago
Thatcher, you are correct. What a great day to be outside. I took a little bike ride out through the horse country. It was fantastic. What kind of dog do you have?
geoffcutler 1 year, 1 month ago
Think that's what he's been up to for the last couple of hours? I'm hoping he'll forward along the email Harley sent to him, so I can apologize to Harley for my false assumptions, and we can put the little identity snafu to rest.
fugitiveguy 1 year, 1 month ago
He'll either find something or otherwise it will never be mentioned again by him. It would be cool if he came back and conceded the point though. I would like for that kind of thing (personal insults) to be a thing of the past on here.
dustyrhoades 1 year, 1 month ago
My post: "Harley: geoff doesn't mind when his buddies on the Right throw punches. He only gets upset and turns into the Civility Police when you hit back."
Notice, nothing about fugitveguy, just a general---and completely true--statement about Geoff and his "buddies on the Right." It's Geoff who narrowed the focus to fg...and who's apparently been waiting patiently here, wondering and theorizing what I've been doing, which is just adorable.
Classic wingnut argument technique: if you're losing, re-define the question so you can pretend you won.
(What I've been doing, BTW: washing the car, working in the yard, and conferring with my cover designer on a new print edition)
Geoff, of course, refuses to admit that ANY of the right wingers here engage in name calling...supposedly I have "the lock" on that. And that tells you all you need to know about Geoff.
BTW, fg, I haven't seen a response from you about that racist insane e-mail I got from Mr. Walker, whose letter you apparently admire so much. Care to comment?
justmyopinion 1 year, 1 month ago
Harley, how did your meeting with Mike go?
Thatcher 1 year, 1 month ago
Thanks for the kind comment fugitiveguy! We have a wonderful Chesapeake Bay Retriever. What a joy, especially at lakes and at the beach! I got slammed by DR for chastising harley, because I did not first chastise Mike (even though I did not read Mike's post that way). Seems things here have become more clear. How about this? You, me, Geoff and Mike and Diane meet for a couple of beers sometime? Be well!
wrich49 1 year, 1 month ago
Dang....I got to the end of reading all these comments, and now I can't remember what the article was about!
fugitiveguy 1 year, 1 month ago
"BTW, fg, I haven't seen a response from you about that racist insane e-mail I got from Mr. Walker, whose letter you apparently admire so much. Care to comment?"
Not sure why you feel the need for me to comment on an email sent by someone else to you. I suppose to you that proves that I endorse what is in your email. If you care to think that, be my guest. Those who know me, know better. You clearly know that I had no such knowledge of those remarks when I made my comment on his letter yet you persist. As I said, be my guest.
dustyrhoades 1 year, 1 month ago
Not sure why you feel the need for me to comment on an email sent by someone else to you.
You just seemed to express such admiration, not just of the letter, but of the writer. You also talked disparagingly about how "the usual suspects" who'd call him racist. Wondering if you still feel the same way.
fugitiveguy 1 year, 1 month ago
"Classic wingnut argument technique: if you're losing, re-define the question so you can pretend you won."
Classic lefty argument technique:take your own most effective dirty trick (so you think) and try to say the other side is doing it exclusively. Unfortunately we have seen it time and time again for as long as I've been on here. With your education and occupation I would think it would be unneccesary. Would it hurt to concede a point every once in a while, it would help your credibility on here.
dustyrhoades 1 year, 1 month ago
You know another reason I don't give any credence at all to all the moaning and crying about name-calling? Because I didn't do any of that in the column, and the right wingers are still whining.
Thatcher 1 year, 1 month ago
DR-- Your slams on Geoff are out of line. From reading this thread (and others), Geoff has been far more civil than you have ever been. Hope you give this some thought.
Thatcher 1 year, 1 month ago
And DR-- Just because your column is devoid of name-calling doesn't mean you don't do that repeatedly on the threads. Read your comments. You might be suprised.
AFCHIEF 1 year, 1 month ago
Dusty, should have gotten outside today and enjoyed the weather, guess not by reading the Dusty blog show above.
dustyrhoades 1 year, 1 month ago
Once again, Ace demonstrates his failures at reading comprehension.
geoffcutler 1 year, 1 month ago
Dusty, sometimes I wonder how you got a law degree. Your reason and logic are woeful. You won't find me calling anyone names, or being disrespecful anywhere, anytime on this website. Cracking jokes, and having fun, yeah, I do that. But I don't talk to people like you do. Say whatever you want. Your record on here speaks for itself. In fact, you and Harley are but a couple of the handful left on here that think name-calling, rudeness, and personal insults are acceptable. You've become a parody of yourself.
Forward the email. Clear the identity matter up. I given my word I'll keep it confidential.
dustyrhoades 1 year, 1 month ago
Say whatever you want. Your record on here speaks for itself.
Thanks, I will. And so does yours. And I stand by what I said earlier: you've got no problem with your right wing buddies talking smack, or even threatening someone physically as Mike did at the begiining of this thread.
But let someone fight back and you're all pious and preachy and condescending to them. Which is why your piety carries no weight at all with me or with anyone but those same right wing buddies.
I'm not forwarding anything to you without Harleyman's permission. If you need that to prove what I've already told you, then my word is not sufficient for you, and we have nothing more to discuss.
geoffcutler 1 year, 1 month ago
What's my record, Dusty? This isn't about us wingnuts, and you know it. I know we've said nasty stuff like you. I never said we didn't. I don't care for it on either side and think it damages us all. Find my rudeness before you call me pious. Then get the permission and I'll admit my mistake and apologize to you both.
justmyopinion 1 year, 1 month ago
In other words Geoff, I think you "got DR's goat" as the old country saying goes.
fugitiveguy 1 year, 1 month ago
"And I stand by what I said earlier: you've got no problem with your right wing buddies talking smack"
Yet, you can provide no examples except something that was said by one person today which was clearly provoked. You try to make it seem like parity exists when there clearly is no such thing. If you feel comfortable with the way you conduct yourself on here then go with it. It is disingenuous to attempt to justify it by claiming you guys are doing it to when you don't seem to be able to give any examples. My guess is a day doesn't go by without you calling somebody a nut or a racist. Many of us realized we were getting out of hand and have modified. It begs the question of why you cannot do the same.
geoffcutler 1 year, 1 month ago
Because it gets you nowhere to talk like him.
dustyrhoades 1 year, 1 month ago
Read Harley's post, Geoff. He's said he prefers to keep his business out of here. And of you think I'm lying when I say that we're not the same person , just say so, and as I said, you and I will deal with that. But don't say you believe me, then keep demanding proof. Say what you mean.
I know we've said nasty stuff like you. I never said we didn't.
No, you just ignore it when you get all preachy. I don't need to "find your rudeness before I call you pious". That makes no sense, I hope you realize. All I need to find is your fake piety, and this thread drips with it. You don't have the authority to preach to anyone when you ignore other people's rudeness, name-calling, and outright threats.
AFCHIEF 1 year, 1 month ago
Geoff, you clearly outclass DR. But the pilot editors won't recognize this and allow him to be the pig of the blogs.
dustyrhoades 1 year, 1 month ago
when you don't seem to be able to give any examples.
Oh, for God's sake...read the blog. Red AFCHIEF'S entire posting history, starting with his first posts. and going right up to his last 'pig of the blogs" post.
Read MikeNC's, who, let us not forget, started this thread by physically threatening harley. Read wdd101st's, and justmyopinion's, like this: Just because you have to be lead around like a dog on a lease and wait for the commands of master obama doesn't mean others aren't capable of making up their own mind.
Thatcher 1 year, 1 month ago
Obama has repeatedly said that...wait...what the heck? What is this? This thread is dripping with piety! Smells like vanilla.
geoffcutler 1 year, 1 month ago
He can send an email to you, he can send one to me. I'll try to call the wingnuts out when they sound like you. Maybe if you grew up and stopped acting like a kid in a school yard sandbox, lay off the insults and name-calling, which would befit a columnist for this paper, then maybe you wouldn't get the responses you do from some of us wingnuts. Try it out, if you can. You may be surprised by the result.
dustyrhoades 1 year, 1 month ago
I'll try to call the wingnuts out when they sound like you.
Sure you will. Start with the one who just called me a pig.
fugitiveguy 1 year, 1 month ago
"Try it out, if you can. You may be surprised by the result."
Its a risk free proposition.
geoffcutler 1 year, 1 month ago
Trying to make some headway here chief. Appreciate your comments to me, but could use a little help here. We can't get on him if we talk like him.
Dusty, you made the bed....
justmyopinion 1 year, 1 month ago
I think AFCHIEF meant pig as in "hog" (verb). It is easy to see that DR "hogs the blogs." That is too obvious. Maybe he meant it another way. He can speak for himself.
dustyrhoades 1 year, 1 month ago
Oh yeah, that's really 'calling someone out."
Thanks for proving my point.
dustyrhoades 1 year, 1 month ago
jmo: wow, that kind of desperate attempt at justification of name-calling is almost worthy of Cutler himself. You've learned well.
geoffcutler 1 year, 1 month ago
Like I said, Dusty, this is your bed you're sleeping in, and going back over the last couple of years on here, it is you who has provoked people to be nasty. They respond to you in kind. Clean up your act, and you'll see others cleaning up theirs. Try staying on topic, maybe. Argue the merits of the issue instead of calling us wingnuts and God knows what else when you debate. You might even try an article that doesn't slam others ad hoc.
I did what you asked, and am waiting for the email. I will not divulge his business or his identity.
dustyrhoades 1 year, 1 month ago
Right. Everyone else is just responding to me. I must really be all powerful to make everyone act just like me. Thanks for the flattery, but it's ridiculous. AFCHIEF and MikeNC were nasty right out of the box, and nasty they remain.
And as for on-topic...go back to the first post in this thread and tell me it's on-topic. And tell me it's civil.

DR-- To me, you're doing yourself no help here. Look at your last ten or so posts...they simply get snarkier. No doubt you're a smart guy, but you let your penchant for foul language and rude comments obscure your point. You can do better. Just be civil.
justmyopinion 1 year, 1 month ago
Grow up DR and at least try to be civil. You maybe many things but stupid you are not. You know damn well the difference between calling someone a pig as in a dirty fat animal verses using the term hog. Stop acting like a child and adding things to people's words.
fugitiveguy 1 year, 1 month ago
DR, just wondering. Have you ever (on a public forum) admitted you were wrong or conceded a point?
geoffcutler 1 year, 1 month ago
Were you picked on as a kid or something? Is that why you can't hear people trying to reach you? You just want to lash out instead because you feel you're being persecuted? Is that why you're always calling people names? Flattery? Only you could somehow think I'm flattering you. What an ego.
Email?
dustyrhoades 1 year, 1 month ago
Thatcher: please show me where I've used "foul language" lately.
jmo: he used "pig", not 'hog" and you're attempt to cover just makes the enormous hole in your credibility even deeper.
fugitiveguy 1 year, 1 month ago
DR, why did you jump to HM's defense regarding his terrible comment regarding Diane? I found it to be indefensible and unprecedented for this forum. I doubt seriously had I made a similar statement that I would have found support (nor should I) from anyone on this site.
dustyrhoades 1 year, 1 month ago
Hey, Geoff, you're the one saying everybody on the board's nasty because I am. You're the one claiming I have the power, not me.
Forget it. Hypocrite you are, and hypocrite you will, apparently, always remain. Some men you just can't reach, and you're apparently one of them. You still try to preach to me, but you have no problem with someone communicating physical threats and only mildly object to someone calling me a "pig" when you're dragged to it.
If you don't get it by now, you never will.
justmyopinion 1 year, 1 month ago
DR, for you to attempt to insult me must first make you assume that I value your opinion somehow. And trust me, there is NOTHING about you that I value.
dustyrhoades 1 year, 1 month ago
DR, why did you jump to HM's defense regarding his terrible comment regarding Diane?
I didn't.
Why do you continue to insist that Mike wasn't implying a sexual relationship between HM and me when he used the exact same wording? Why do you continue to defend Mike for threatening him?
Never mind, I know the answer.
fugitiveguy 1 year, 1 month ago
"and you're attempt to cover just makes the enormous hole in your credibility even deeper. "
Just curious, DR, are there any conservatives on here you deem credible?
geoffcutler 1 year, 1 month ago

AFCHIEF 1 year, 1 month ago
OMG Dusty, sorry I should have said Hogs the Blogs. Damn dude chill-lax.
dustyrhoades 1 year, 1 month ago
Just curious, DR, are there any conservatives on here you deem credible?
Nope. Far right conservatism is a dying ideology. You know how I know? Because your own party knows a far right candidate will get slaughtered in the general election. That's why they're trying to scuttle Santorum by falling in behind the "Massachusetts moderate" who's voted for everything conservatives hate.
And most of the so-called conservatives here are going to vote for him because they hate Obama...which means they're not really conservatives at all.
Now, do you think trying to claim AFCHIEF was saying I'm "hogging the boards" when he clearly called me a pig helps jmo's credibility? Do you think ignoring that while giving me grief for "name calling" helps yours?
fugitiveguy 1 year, 1 month ago
"Why do you continue to insist that Mike wasn't implying a sexual relationship between HM and me when he used the exact same wording? Why do you continue to defend Mike for threatening him? "
I addressed those issues many hours ago once I think so I don't know where you get off with this "continue to insist" and "continue to defend" business. But since you seem so hung up over it, once again I didn't feel he was implying it the way you took it, thats my opinion, it differs from yours, you will just have to deal with it. As far as Mike threatening HM, I don't think Mike has a history, you would know better than I but I think it was a first. My guess is HM realizes his mistake even if you don't and won't be "going there" again. I would like to see both of you modify your techniques. I have more faith that he will be open to this than you.
fugitiveguy 1 year, 1 month ago
"Far right conservatism is a dying ideology."
that would explain the house cleaning in 2010, that would explain the success of conservative talk radio, that would explain the success of Fox News, not bad for a near corpse
dustyrhoades 1 year, 1 month ago
Fg, you've never addressed how "KNOW eack [sic] other VERY personally" means one thing when Mike says it and another when Harley says it.
But that's okay. I know why you claim it means something different. Same reason Geoff claims he thinks that. See the headline if you're still confused.
dustyrhoades 1 year, 1 month ago
FG: there'll always be the 27 percenters, explained more fully here:
http://www.thenation.com/blog/165769/so-long-its-been-bad-know-ya
But if far right conservatism's so popular, why won't the party get behind Paul? Or Santorum?
Also, your core demographic is aging out, and will soon be no more.
Now I'll ask again:
Do you think trying to claim AFCHIEF was saying I'm "hogging the boards" when he clearly called me a pig helps jmo's credibility? Do you think ignoring that while giving me grief for "name calling" helps yours?

DR, you mention me in your comments as being threatening or physical several times now. You building one of your cases? How about we stick to the facts. Here's my words of what I expected from harleyman yesterday....
MikeNC 23 hours, 24 minutes ago ... I expect a face to face apology today.
Thanks to all of you who have commented sensibly concerning what should have never happened. Too bad I didn't get one of them emails from "harleyman" as it could have made a difference. Gentlemen, at risk of stating the obvious this exchange appears pointless. May I suggest a cessation of hostilities?
Geoff - Provided DR and Harley are in accord, would you find me a credible source to confirm if indeed DR and Harley are one in the same or not? This would require both parties accept my word to respect confidentiality.
Harley/DR - If you would find this agreeable, once or should I say if Geoff accepts my determination to be binding, I would ask Harley to properly identify himself to me via e-mail through this medium.
Gentlemen, again I assure you I have no dog in this fight other than to return to a more civil exchange of ideas. Your thoughts?

Absolutely I said that Dusty...The back door being The Pilot on Pennsylvania Ave. And 'tomorrow' now being today and that is now the only method available to me. I always do prefer to work things out in person. It works much smoother that way and sometimes people even become friends after doing so. Like I also said...It was his choice and the backdoor is the only resolution I can now seek. It's too bad he did not take a minute and email us and offer a sincere apology to Diane...Mike
Courseaire 1 year, 1 month ago
Dusty - This might be your funniest column yet - you do have a gift.
MikeNC 1 year, 1 month ago
"Back Door Update"...Well as I said in the beginning, I'm not a fan of taking my complaints to the official complaint department, but that is the direction I was forced to take. I said harleymans comments directed at my wife would not stand and I did my part to see that through. First by giving him an opportunity to do what was right and work it out together; and at the same time letting him know I would take a different direction for resolution if he refused to do so.
I want to thank the staff at The Pilot for spending ample time with me this morning. It was an excellent meeting and I learned some very interesting facts this morning which will remain unmentioned. I can say that the new Editor of the newspaper has made his first effort to bring some civility back to these boards. I say that because that is pretty much common knowledge after the recent discussion of a letter that was sent to a few posters here.
The individual who spoke with me this morning is well aware of some of the problems that exist on these boards. Having fun and getting a bit snarky or whatever adds to the entertainment. But the name calling and labelling innocent people as RACISTS and LIARS and many other adjectives is beyond having fun or being clever or witty; especially in the political climate we now find ourselves. The man I spoke with assured me that my concern will be hoisted up their flagpole for resolution....Mike

To all – I’ve been out west skiing and have missed all the ongoing comments over the last week & a half, but have since caught up and would like to offer my overall opinion of them. First, I agree that for the most part them comments are cleaning up (Thank you all & Mr. Nagy). Second, in reviewing the exchange between MikeNC & Harley, though both were a little out of line, I did not find them to be as vicious or nasty as some seem to have interpreted them. In my opinion, they were blown way out of proportion of what was intended, with each reading intent where no intent was intended – I home you understand what I intended to say. Harley – I hope you reconsider and stay as I find a lot of your comments amusing. Courseaire

Folks - As many are aware, we have had a discussion between MikeNC, dustyroades and im_a_harleyman. We have contacted all involved and dealt with the situation. A couple of things you may want to know. First, harley and dusty are not the same person. Second, harley has asked us to remove his/her account. Third, we won't hesitate to remove others if you cannot interact without some civility and respect for your fellow commenters... That means abide by the policy you have agreed to abide by.
Courseaire 1 year, 1 month ago
Bravo! However, I have tried to find this policy, but have been unable to find it. Would you provide a link?
kiki 1 year, 1 month ago
MikeNC - I have read several of the comments here and I would add to what Courseaire stated that that both people made comments that were "out of line". I have to say that when I read your first comment about Harley "knowing" DR, I read it the same way as they did. I do acknowlwedge that however, that was not your intent. I also read the Walmart comment as a threat to have a physical confrontation in the parking lot. Again . . . based on your statements, not your intent.
As has been stated on here recently, we all need to "play nice". As we all know, but seem to forget in heated moments, words (especially when thare isn't any non-verbal cues) can be interpreted many ways. This is especially true when the relationship has it's challenges already. It's sad this whole thing happened but I feel the worst for Diane because she had nothing to do with the initial conversation.
Peace out . . .

dustyrhoades 1 year, 1 month ago
First, harley and dusty are not the same person.
Glad we got that settled.
dustyrhoades 1 year, 1 month ago
Note that I will no longer be calling Mike a "liar." I will, instead, be referring to him as "a person who has posted several things that are not true." That seems to be a nicer way of putting it when Mike or Diane once again, posts some accusation or claim (usually about the President) that proves to be factually inaccurate.
And I still have the list of those things Mike has posted that are not true that he managed to get scrubbed from his wall, for the time when he inevitably asks "show me what I've said that's not true."
Further, when someone posts something blatantly r----ist (Because it does exist and there are people here that practice it, no matter how unhappy they get about the word), I will be using the polite euphemisms "someone who exhibits clear bias against minorities" or "someone whose entire judgement is based on the color of someone's skin" or "someone who demands different standards of people based on their ethnicity." This will take longer, but it'll be nicer.
Everybody have a great day.

Truth isn't relative, Courseaire. When someone posts an outrageous claim: "Obama said in his book that seeing Louis Farrakhan speak was the high point of his life!" And I know very well that's not true because I have the books, then the claimant is ly--I mean, saying something that's not true. You don't get to "decide" what the truth is. It's there or it ain't.

Mr. Sledz (aka AFCHIEF) is invited to peruse this table:
http://www.skymachines.com/US-National-Debt-Per-Capita-Percent-of-GDP-and-by-Presidental-Term.htm
Which shows that debt increased under the second President Bush from $5,662,216,013,697 when he took office to nearly 11 trillion ($5,662,216,013,697)--an increase of 89%.
By contrast, debt increased from under President Obama from that figure to $15,125,898,976,397...41%.
Ergo, I would respectfully suggest that, indeed, your assertion is less that truthful.
BTW, the increase under President Ronald Reagan, so beloved and revered of conservatives? 189%.
One is also reminded of the quote from another conservative icon, Mr. Richard Cheney: Reagan showed us that deficits don't matter.' One suggests that perhaps deficits do matter to Republicans, but only when a Democrat is in the White House. Whether or not this constitutes hypocrisy will be left to the discretion of the individual reader.

This may be an "off topic" post, and if so, the Pilot staff can delete it. I understand that Mr. Embry said that harley wanted to be removed, and I certainly accept that. But the larger question, at least to me, is about judgment. How many here would like to be judged by their worst post? Perhaps one posted out of anger, or frustration, or simply lack of information. I certainly did not agree with his post, and I called him on it. And I certainly understand MikeNC's reaction. But how many of us would like to be judged by our worst day, and by the things we said to someone (our spouse, kids, best friend, etc.) that cannot be taken back? My guess? Not many. Empathy can be a wonderful thing when you realize that you yourself are not perfect. I know I come across as the Ned Flanders of this site, but as we all go forward with "civility" as our goal, I would hope that forgiveness does not get lost in the equation. Thanks.

So what about it AFCHIEF? Dusty's articles, editorials and posts are the BEST the PILOT has to offer. A lot of posters have gone bye-bye now for a lot of reasons but it's a bit disturbing that FREE SPEECH is being STOMPED on again. Now, I am not talking about THREATS and I read Harley's comment. So what? MikeNC, why didn't you just "volley ball" back to him instead of getting much too worked up? There seems to be similar "problems" at the Wash. Post. and Patrick Pexton wrote on 3/30/12: "The Post should moderate it's comments gently....Yes, it's a jungle out there in Commentland. Facts and reasoned argument will most often win the day,,.but wear a pith helmet and have a rhetorical machete at hand. You'll need them." Why are the "civil" yet lying, predjudiced, hateful TEAPOTTER-REPUBLICANS getting their way, Pilot? Dusty and I speak the TRUTH about many of those "bubble-headed and brainwashed" posters here. The Republicans have been taking notes from one Eric Heubeck who wrote: "The Integration of Theory and Practice" in which he says, "This essay is based on the belief that the truth of an idea is not the primary reason for it's acceptance. Far more important is the energy and dedication of the idea's promoters. We will maintain a constant barrage of criticisim against the Left. We will attack the very legitimacy of the Left. We will not give them a moments rest....We will be results oriented rather than good-intentions oriented." So the discussion get's someone's goat and they BOO-HOO it over to the Pilot. And now there's censorship, which is ALWAYS a BAD thing. Dusty, they still get to lie and we have to be "nice." What kind of America is this?

Mr. Sledz is cordially invited to examine his own posting history and contemplate whether or not he lacks any standing to level this charge. Mr. Sledz (who BTW identified himself by name in one of his own posts) is further urged most earnestly to educate himself as to the actual meaning of the term "slander", of which he he seems inordinately fond. Finally, this writer would humbly suggest to Mr. Sledz that he obtain a thesaurus, as this writer has observed that Mr. Sledz is beginning to repeat the same responses over and over to every post, and is at risk of becoming stale and boring.

dustyrhoades 1 year, 1 month ago
Mr. Sledz is cordially reminded that it was he who provided his real name on the blog and therefore his charge that this is somehow a tactic of intimidation is without merit.
Mr. Sledz is also invited to re-examine his claim of turning over a new leaf in light of his "pig" comment above. This writer also sincerely hopes that Mr. Sledz obtains that thesaurus without undue delay, lest other posters begin to find his reiteration of the words "slander and name calling" tiresome and repetitive.

fugitiveguy: "I think it is a common tactic of the left to convince certain segments of the population that they are being discriminated against." The LEFT fg, is NOT using the horrendous reality of discrimination to get those "certain segments" of the population to be on the "lefts" side at all, as you claim. DISCRIMINATION is a REALITY it is NOT a figment of anyone's imagination. It still exhists. fg: "20 years Obama attended his racist church". fugitiveguy, What did you really mean with that comment? "Please tell us what Republican President sat in on either Sunday Services". fg, you were comparing President Obama's church attendence with other President's attendence? You do know that Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson are TV TELEVANGELISTS? A president would "sit in on" their sermon by turning on the tv on Sunday morning. So, who would even know? dustyrhoades 1 year, 1 month ago
Mr. Time may wish to educate himself further regarding the reason's for Mr. Olbermann's firing, and the fact that he was replaced by the equally liberal Elliot Spitzer. I would also inquire as to whether Mr. Time is conceding that, rather than being a "fair and balanced" news organization as it claims, Fox News is, indeed biased towards conservative point of view, and that all of its news reporting should be examined in light of that bias.
In anticipation of Mr. Time's question, of course MSNBC is attempting to be the liberal version of Fox, which begs the question as to whether liberals want or need a source of news as biased as conservatives seem to require. This writer, for one, does not watch said network regularly for that reason.
Mr. Time is invited to look up the term "epistemic closure" and opine as to why it seems to be so prevalent among conservatives.
Courseaire 1 year, 1 month ago
DR: I would also inquire as to whether Mr. Time is conceding that, rather than being a "fair and balanced" news organization as it claims, Fox News is, indeed biased towards conservative point of view, and that all of its news reporting should be examined in light of that bias. I would put forth that Fox News is “fair and balanced” and not biased, but just happens to meet the standards/values of conservatives and thus liberals try to convince others that it isn’t the norm and thus the need to have CNN, MSNBC and all other media to push the liberal agenda to try to fight against that one "fair and balanced" organization.
TOYTIME 1 year, 1 month ago
Dusty I'm certainly willing to admit that Fox has a conservative slant, I would think that most everyone hear would agree. Most honest people would agree that (ms)nbc is by far more biased going the other way than Fox. EC is the I believe just as pervasive on the left as it is the right, what's your point? I like to watch both networks and do on a regular basis. Current, I never tuned in. I saw Spitzer on CNN, and wasn't impressed. At least Olbermann was smart and entertaining (jerk that he is). RM on msnbc, she's the same very smart very entertaining, the enterview she gave on NPR the night before last bolstered my opinion of her. However I disagree with her political views almost right down the line, I'm very impressed by her and would not want to debate her.
dustyrhoades 1 year, 1 month ago
I, too am very impressed by Ms. Maddow...in fact, most of what I've seen "on" MSNBC has been in the form of online videos of her show that other sources have cited or commended.
But I find it rather ironic that conservatives seem to watch a lot more MSNBC than I do.
Courseaire inadvertently raises another point in answer to Toytime's assertion that Fox News' ratings mean far-right conservatism doesn't represent a minority : Assuming for the sake of argument that conservatives are right and that ALL the other networks: ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, PBS, CNN, BBC, et. al., are liberal, and that FOX is the only conservative network....doesn't that mean that, in the aggregate, the "liberal" networks are more popular? It's just that Fox's audience is more concentrated in one place.
You can have 27% of the electorate...but if most of that 27% is watching one channel, theyr'e not a majority..but that channel has a heck of an audience share.
Courseaire 1 year, 1 month ago
...or do more liberals watch Faux News, but like any addict, won't admit to their addiction. or perhaps the total viewers of all those liberal media just totals to viewer of one Faux News???

Well, we certainly know one liberal who watches a great deal of Fox News...Mr. Jon Stewart. It's an endless gold mine of material for him.

I am ending this thread with this final commentary. We are going to great lengths to try to provide ample opportunity to have a free-ranging commentary on the pilot.com, but multiple parties in this -- and other threads over time -- have sought to drag down the commentary with personal attacks, innuendo, vulgarity, profanity and overall puerile behavior. So it's time for all parties to break from this thread, with this final warning. Future posts that impugn, insult, or that engage in vulgarity, profanity, name-calling, verbal hair-pulling etc. will be deleted or removed, and those commenters will lose commenting privileges for a period of time. Repeated offenders will face a permanent ban. If you have concerns or questions, I am available at john@thepilot.com. Thank you. -- John Nagy, editor
