Patriot Girls Win in League Cross Country

The Pinecrest girls finished sixth in a field of 24 teams and over more than 150 runners at Saturday’s Greensboro Invitational cross country championships held at Hagen-Stone Park. West Johnston nipped the Patriots for fifth by one point.
Jennie Cunningham was the top finisher in the championship race for the Patriot girls with a 30th place time of 20:55.
The other Patriot results included, Jaleigh Jensen, 33rd place (21:09), Katie Hayes, 41st (21:29), Sarah Pressley, 43rd (21:34), Sarah Klug, 55th (22:12) and Hayden Rudd, 83rd place (23:03).
In the developmental race, the Patriots finished fifth as a team led by the seventh place finish of Mulloy Manning (21:59), Kara Zoellner, 11th (22:27), Zia Matti, 24th (23:03) and Hana Bornhorst, 43rd (24:24).
In the third Southeastern Conference tri-meet of the season held at Henson Lake in Richmond County on Tuesday, the Patriot girls took first place with a perfect score of 15 points. Richmond County was second with 50 and Purnell Swett, which only ran four girls, did not post a score.
Zoellner was the winner in 22:29, followed by teammates Jenna Woronoff, second (22:33), Matti, third (22:46), Bornhorst, fourth (23:38), Mary Katherine Johnston, seventh (24:55), Laura Ott, eighth (24:56), Katelyn Pritchett, 10th (25:31), Hannah Hensley, 11th (26:06), and Addie Bayless, 12th (26:20).
The Patriots will be in action again on Saturday in the Great American Cross Country Festival in Cary. The Patriots will be in the seeded invitational against 17 schools from outside of North Carolina. The team will return to conference action next Tuesday at Hoke County.
