Vikes Place Second in Golf
The Union Pines girls’ golf team placed second in a Cape Fear Valley Conference match Monday at the Sanford Municipal Golf Course.
Vike sophomore Lindsay Dakin carded a nine-hole score of 45 to tie for medalist honors.
Because of problems with finishing rounds due to darkness the previous two weeks, the CFVC opted to make the remaining league matches on this season’s schedule nine-hole competitions.
Western Harnett won the match with a total of 152, while Union Pines shot a 156 to place second. Southern Lee rounded out the top-three with a 159 tally.
The other two players to post top-three team scores for Union Pines Monday were Shannon Burns with a 54 and Riley Whalen, who shot 57.
Through three CFVC matches this season, Western Harnett is in first place. Union Pines is currently in second place in the conference standings.
On the year, the Vikings have one victory, one runner-up finish and a third-place showing — last week at Anderson Creek Golf Club — that saw Western capture its first win league of the season.
Union Pines played a makeup CFVC match Tuesday at Carolina Lakes Golf Club in Sanford. Next week the Vikings travel to Fayetteville for league action at King’s Grant Golf and Country Club.
