Author Jenny Wingfield will be at The Country Bookshop Thursday, Sept. 29, at noon to discuss her debut novel, "The Homecoming of Samuel Lake."
The book, published by Random House, begins with the Moses family reunion at the old home place in Arkansas. Preacher Samuel Lake, his wife, Willadee Moses, and their children come to enjoy the festivities and visiting with family. Tragedy strikes, resulting in crisis and change. Then Samuel learns he has lost his parish back in Louisiana, so the family decides to stay on the farm for a while.
Samuel's daughter, Swan, is fascinated by the family, especially her Uncle Toy, a war veteran, and his wife, Bernice, who also happens to be an old girlfriend of her father's. But her biggest project is her new friend Blade, an 8-year-old neighbor who is terrified of his father. Little does she realize that she is endangering not only herself, but her family as well.
Wingfield lives in Texas with her rescued dogs, cats and horses. Her screenplay credits include "The Man in the Moon" and "The Outsider."
