A Southern Pines man remains hospitalized in critical condition following a two-vehicle accident last week near Aberdeen that killed a Raeford woman.
Grady Sharp McCollum, 79, was driving his Jeep SUV northbound on U.S. 15-501 when he crossed the center line and struck a southbound Nissan pickup truck driven by 48-year-old Sheila Cameron Dawson, according to the State Highway Patrol. The incident happened between the Pee Dee and Hight roads.
After the collision, McCollum's vehicle flipped, and Dawson's truck went down and embankment and hit a tree. She was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Highway Patrol. She was wearing her seat belt, the patrol said.
Two passengers in Dawson's truck, Latasha Michelle Cameron, 31, and Warren Kendrick Cameron, 26, both of Raeford, were also transported to area hospitals.
Latasha Cameron was released from First Health Moore Regional on Monday, according to a hospital spokesperson. Warren Cameron was transported to UNC Hospitals Chapel Hill and later released.
The incident is still under investigation. No charges have been filed.
