Patriot Harriers Sweep Tri-Meet

The Pinecrest boys’ and girls’ cross country teams won their second Southeastern Conference tri-meet in a row, convincingly, at Scotland County Tuesday afternoon.

Ben Kaiser (18:05) and John Hasty (18:07) of the Patriots took the first two places in the 5K race. Scotland runners came in second and third. Then came Alex Brown (18:40), Graham Hawes (18:51) and Spencer Brock (19:07) of the Patriots in the fifth through seventh places. The team scores, based on the first five runners from each team to finish, were: Pinecrest 21, Scotland 36 and Hoke County 75.

Nine of the first 10 runners to cross the finish line in the girls’ race were from Pinecrest led by the winner Katana Lemelin (21:28). After Cori Newton of Scotland in second place (21:34) came Kara Zoellner (21:38), Jenna Woronoff (21:56), Zia Matti (22:07) and Hana Bornhorst (22:43) of the Patriots. The team scores were: Pinecrest 19 and Scotland 56. Hoke did not have enough runners to make a score.
