David Holt and Will McIntyre will be in Laurinburg on Sunday, Sept. 18, for a bluegrass jam from 2 to 3:30 p.m. and then present a concert at 4 p.m. The jam begins at 1 p.m.
"SACS is proud to have David return, having been SACS' grand opening performer in October 2008," says a spokesman. "With room for only 250, this an opportunity to have an up-close concert experience, not found when in large crowded performance halls."
For more than three decades, Holt's passion for traditional music and culture has fueled a successful performing and recording career. Earning four Grammy Awards, he has performed and recorded with many of his mentors, including Doc Watson, Grandpa Jones, Bill Monroe, Earl Scruggs, Roy Acuff and Chet Atkins. Today he tours the country performing solo, with his band The Lightning Bolts, and with Doc Watson. He has his own very popular television program as well as a radio show broadcast out of Texas.
Will McIntyre has been playing bass with David Holt for more than 30 years and is the bass player for the David Holt Trio. He has traveled with the trio on their numerous trips to Africa, South America and Latin America, which were sponsored by the U.S. State Department.
Tickets are $15, and reservations are advised. There will be beer, soft drinks and snacks available for purchase.
