The Union Pines volleyball team defeated Pinecrest in four sets at James Moore Gymnasium in Wednesday. With the 17-25, 25-21, 25-23 and 25-13 nonconference victory, the visiting Vikings improved to 12-1 on the season, while the Patriots' record moved to 10-3. Photos by Donna Ford.
With the 17-25, 25-21, 25-23 and 25-13 nonconference victory, the visiting Vikings moved to 12-1 on the season. Pinecrest is now 10-3 for the year.
Morgan Bridgers finished the night with 21 assists, seven kills and seven digs for Union Pines. Vike Crystal Hicks had 11 kills eight digs and two blocks, while her younger sister, Tiffany Hicks, totaled five kills and three blocks.
Zazil Porras provided the Vikings with some pop off the bench, registering 8 kills, two blocks, five digs and three assist in the match.
Providing a steady force at the net for Pinecrest was Felicia Painter, with 19 kills and two blocks. Amber Goodwin had 12 kills and two blocks for the home team.
Megan Thomas tallied 18 assists in the tilt for Pinecrest, while Callie Boone had 12 assists.
Patriots Rae Nunez (13) and Keyasa Martin (8) combined for 21 digs.
The Patriots play their third match in as many days, Thursday, when they return to 4-A Southeastern Conference action to host Purnell Swett at 6 p.m.
The Vikes next take to the court Tuesday, on their home floor in a 3-A Cape Fear Valley tilt against Westover.
