Due to road construction, U.S. Highway 1 southbound at Pinehurst Avenue in Southern Pines has been reduced to one lane. Currently traffic is congested from Morganton Road south to Pinehurst Avenue on U.S. 1. Motorists are requested to use 15/501 as an alternate if possible.

Someone please explain to me why on a road so busy they don't pave during the night hours. There are plenty of people that work third shifts and they should too....

Because labor costs more to work at night. I'm sure they will do it. You willing to pay more taxes so that that extra cost can be covered?

Didn't think so.

I drove past the bottle neck yesterday afternoon. Those guys have a really tough job...one vibratory roller, one sitting, four workers leaning against the bridge rail watching. Three were leveling the fresh asphalt and interesting that one had a cigarette hanging from his lips. Now wonder the health cost are rising ~ breathing asphalt fumes and sucking on a cigarette at the same time. Yep, Davey, one can see that costs are expensive when half the crew is in observation mode, and the other half is trying to create a condition for chronic respiratory disabilities.
