Fairway Notebook: Two Collect Aces

Hole-In-One: Bob Saenz, a member at Longleaf, scored an ace on Aug. 29 while playing the 150-yard, 15th hole. He used his 6-hybrid to reach the green, and his playing partners were Joe Carter, John Koubek and Gary Mulvihill.

Darla Howe, a member at Woodlake, scored her first hole-in-one on Sept. 7, while playing the 110-yard, 12th hole of the Palmer Course. Darla used her 7-iron to reach the green and witnessing her ace were Dee Kirschke and Lynn Ball.

Pinetop: Competition was played at the CC of Whispering Pines, East Course, on Sept. 7, with seven clubs participating. Flight winners were:

Whispering Pines: The Labor Day Tournament on Sept. 5th had 116 players competing in two games, two best net balls of the foursome and a step aside scramble.

A donation of $539 was raised for Patriots Day with generous donations made on the seventh tee – each player could contribute and one of the CCWP professionals would hit their tee shot. Every shot made the fairway with just a little help from a fore caddy.

Whispering Woods: The Men’s Golf Association played an Individual Stableford Tournament on September 2, with the following winners: Glenn Bernhard, 47 points; Charley Frick, 44 points; Tom Lyon, 41 points.

On Sept. 5, the game was team low net. Glenn Bernhard, bud Henty, Joe Matejka, Fred Miller, 55.

On Sept. 7 the game was two lo net scores including one Man in the Box. Charley Frick, Joe Matejka, Phil Scalia, Jim Willard, 127.

Seven Lakes: The Women’s Golf Association played on Sept. 7 in a Cordial Cup format.

Edie Starkey won with net 33. Flight 1 – Peggy Ballew, 36 (MOC); Roni Hann, 36 (MOC); Connie Galford, 37. Flight 2 – Marge Blake, 35; Betty Larson, 36; Ione Katz, 38.

The Nine Hole Lakers played on Sept. 7 in their monthly cordial cup/low putts tournament.

In a 9-hole skins game, Bill Crenson won the only skin on hole No. 8. Crenson also won low gross with 41.

The Midland Ladies Golf Association played on Sept. 1 in a game of low gross and low net.

The 18-gole winners: Flight 1 – Dee Hancock, gross 97. Sally Kelly, net 80. Flight 2 – Georgia Snow, gross 105. Nancy Hartwick, net 73.

9-hole winners: Flight 1 – Doris Stone, gross 49. Margene Chapman, net 36.
