The Pinecrest boys’ and girls’ cross country teams both took third place in the championship races of Saturday night’s Jungle Run held at South View High School in Hope Mills.

Josh Crawford of South View won the boys’ 5K race with a time of 15:57.

Chris Kelly was the top Pinecrest finisher with a seventh-place time of 16:34.

Patriot teammate Killam Becket was eighth, also in 16:34.

Shelby Howell of New Hanover won the girls’ race in 18:13.

Jennie Cunningham was the first Patriot to cross the finish line with a 13th-place time of 19:45.

Teammate Jaleigh Jensen was 26th with a time of 20:12 and another Patriot, Katie Hayes came in 28th at 20:30.

Orange won the boys’ team title with 91 points, followed by Millbrook with 95 and Pinecrest with 100 among the 17 teams posting scores.

The girls’ champion was Carrboro with 64 points. Next were West Johnston with 100 and Pinecrest with 121 in the field of 14 teams.

Six races were run in all. In the boys’ invitational race, Will Pearson of Pinecrest came in fourth in 17:02 and Graham Hawes was ninth in 17:44.

In the girls’ invitational, Katana Lemelin was seventh with a time of 20:59 and Jenna Woronoff was 16th in 21:49.

Ben White of Union Pines had the best time for an area runner in the boys’ jayvee/developmental race, finishing 11th in 19:03.

Debbie Gibson of Union Pines was the top local finisher in the girls’ race with a 35th-place time of 25:12.
