Seven Lakes: The Couples Club Championship was played Aug. 28 with Peg Ballew and Butch Allen winning with an aggregate gross score of 180. Marti Elliott and Ray Moore were second with 184.

The second game was the best net score of two players, and the winners were: Diane and Damon Boston, 64; Denny and Connie Galford, 67.

Closest to the pin honors went to Nancy Peterson on hole No. 7 and Ray Moore on hole No. 10.

The Women’s Golf Association played a Friendship Day Aug. 30. The 18-holers and 9-holers combined for a two best ball of the foursome game. Two teams, tied at 68: Diane Boston, Nancy Kling, Donna McClung, Darlene Wiebking and Peggy Ballew, Mary Ann Gerney, Judy Hogan, Marilyn Quintana.

The Nine Hole Lakers played Aug. 31 and the game was “two putts max.” The winners: Flight 1 - Barb Gerhardt, 32; Betsy Jones,33; Diane Boston, 34. Flight 2 – Marilyn Hoffman, 32; Lillian Schafer, 36.

National: The Women’s Golf Association played Aug. 31 in their President’s Cup tournament. The 18-hole results: Gross: Norma Hyland, 88; Diana Tate, 99. Net: Maureen Buckley, 74; Pia Orlandi, tied at 77, with Lois Lee. The 9-hole results: Gross: Heather Barnwell, 60. Net: Judy Vanica, 43.

Knollwood: The Rainmakers played Aug. 30 in a “guess your score” game, with gross scores only: No handicaps were involved. Players entered a score they thought they would play to. Flight 1 – a five-way tie at plus 1 – Janet McDowell, Peggy Jones, Lucky Levin, Lois Vollmer and Dee Hancock. Flight 2 – Joan Mangrum, even; Linda Parke and Mary Curl, each plus 1. Flight 3 – Carole Amlot and Elizabeth Green, even; Marquita Daniels, plus 2.

Mid Carolina Men’s Golf Association: Competition was held on Pinehurst No. 6, on Aug. 29, with 10 clubs participating. There are 12 players from each club with prizes awarded for low gross and low net.

On Aug. 29 the game was mixed holes, played in threesomes, with Bill Bartlett, Fred Miller and Rich Moran scoring 91.

Aug. 31 the event was an individual flag tournament (each player plants his flag where his handicap ran out). The winners: Charley Frick, 18 holes plus 8 strokes. Glenn Bernhard, 18 holes plus 4 strokes. Fred Miller, 18 holes plus one stroke. Al Gaeta, 18 holes.

Pinehurst: The Men’s Golf Association played a Nassau tournament Aug. 23 on Course No. 4. The game was one best ball on hole No. 1 and two best balls on Hole No. 2, repeating this pattern for 18 holes. Pinewild: The Women’s Golf Association played Sept. 1, in a two best balls of the foursome, with one bad hole on the front and one on the back thrown out. Competition was on the Magnolia Course and the teams were ABCD.

The Men’s Golf Association played Aug. 31 in a Stableford tournament, using full handicaps. Players won one point for a net par, two for a net birdie and three for a net eagle.

Dick Prevatt was first with 24 points, Paul Hogan was second with 20 points. Dick Baldwin and Ted Gleason tied with 19 points.

Beacon Ridge: Sue Sikes is the winner of the Beaconette Cup with a net score 33. Other winners: Susan Schurr, 33; Dorothy Martin, 36; Linda Talbot, 38.

Foxfire: The Ladies Golf Association played a game of one net ball on par-5s, two net balls on par-4s and three net balls on par-3s. The winners: Sue Durham, Lucille Cardelle, Barbara Gaimari, 133; Kathy Lishawa, Rhea Boelter, Bertha Christman, 137.
