Sew and Sews Place presents the first "Bras for the Brave: Artful Bras Against Cancer" auction.

The event will be held Friday, Oct. 21, with all proceeds to benefit the Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation's Friends of the Cancer Center

In an effort to promote breast cancer awareness "Artful Bras" are submitted fully decorated as original works of art.

They will be created to memorialize one who has been lost to breast cancer, in honor of a breast cancer survivor or as a message of strength and hope to those brave women who battle this horrible disease.

Each participant will be asked to submit a size 36C underwire bra, covered entirely (excluding straps), with anything and everything from fabric, feathers, fringe and paint. Submissions need to be in by Wednesday, Sept. 21, by 5 p.m. There is a $10 registration fee.

"All submissions must be named, fully decorated, and hung on a padded hanger," says a spokesman. "If you have a story or dedication to someone special you would like included with your bra, please provide that information printed on a separate card and attach it to the hanger."

All bras will be on display at Sew and Sews Place, at SewAndSewsPlace.com and on Facebook, where votes may be cast for $1 per vote.

The final voting and bra auction will be held Friday, Oct. 21, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Sew and Sews Place, located at 2711 Raeford Road, Fayetteville.
