Middle Schools Compete in Cross Country Championships

The Moore County Middle School cross country championship meet is scheduled to be held at Southern Middle School on Tuesday.
Separate girls and boys two-mile races will start at 4 p.m. Individual awards will be given to the top-14 finishers in each race. The top team in each race will be awarded the Moore County Middle School Cross Country Trophy that will be engraved with the school’s name and reside at each respective school for the next year.
The entry list for the event hosted by the Pinecrest cross country team includes 54 boys and 47 girls in the fifth through eighth grades from eight different schools.
The final regular-season meet hosted by Pope John Paul II was held Wednesday at Reservoir Park. Eighth-grader Teno Benitez of Southern Middle won the boys’ race with a time of 12:34. The winner for the girls was seventh-grader Allyson Burney of Southern Middle in 13:49.
