Falcons Lose in Girls' Tennis

The O’Neal School lost 7-2 Thursday in a conference match at Village Christian Academy in Fayetteville.
Grayson Keel picked up a win for the Falcons at No. 2 singles, defeating Candace Taylor 6-1, 6-0. Keel then combined with Maggie Hakas to take a comeback win at No. 1 doubles by a score of 8-6. At one point, the pair trailed the Village duo of Alexis Stout and Abby Strickland 5-2.
In other singles action, Hakas lost 6-2, 6-3 to Stout, Ally Hoehn-Saric lost 6-2, 6-0 to Abby Strickland, Dana Averbook lost 6-2, 6-1 to Patricia Kalevas, Lacia Core lost 6-1, 6-1 to Kara Stevens and Katherine McMurray lost to Alison Copeland 6-0, 6-2.
In the two other doubles matches, Hoehn-Saric and Averbook lost 8-1 to Taylor and Kalevas, and Nicole Basile and Katie Salloum lost to Copeland and Kalevas 8-1.
O’Neal dropped to 1-7 (1-5 Cape Fear Independent Conference), while Village improved to 15-5 (4-2).
O’Neal will complete its regular season on Tuesday, with an away match against Westchester Country Day School in High Point. The Falcons travel to Wilmington on Thursday to compete in the state 2-A tournament at the Althea Gibson Tennis Center.
