Five Pinecrest golfers, including Southeastern Conference Player of the Year Savannah Thompson, have qualified for next Monday’s Central Regional match at Pinehurst No. 8.

The Patriots, coached by Jennifer Kearney, completed the regular season with their seventh conference win in a row at Pinehurst No. 1 on Monday. Conference runner-up, Hailey Crider, was the medalist with a 79. Their team score of 349 also included an 84 by Thompson, a 90 by Catherine Cirigliano and a pair of 96s by Haley Robinson and Becky Anderson.

The final league standings (based on 12 for first, 10 for second, etc.) were: Pinecrest 84, Scotland 70, Purnell Swett 56, Richmond 38, Hoke 30 and Lumberton 16.

Excluding the highest round of the season, Thompson, a sophomore, finished with a conference stroke average of 77.0. Crider, a junior, and last season’s player of the year, came in at 79.0. Thompson was the medalist three times, Crider two and they shared the honor twice.

Also finishing in the top 10 in the conference were Robinson, fourth (89.3), Anderson, sixth (91.5), and Cirigliano, eighth (93.3). Also qualifying for the regional from the Patriots was Elaine Kearney.

The other conferences competing in the Central Regional are the Metro, Mideastern, Mid-South and Piedmont Triad. The top four teams (based on the top three scores from each team) advance to the 4-A state championships at Pinehurst No. 6 on Oct. 31-Nov. 1. The 14 best scores individually from teams not among the top four also advance.
