James Miles has been named director of the St. Andrews University at Sandhills program.

Miles will also be the director of adult and professional studies for the university.

"Jim has worked in our St. Andrews at Sandhills program for 15 years while also teaching in Laurin-burg," said Robert J. Hopkins, vice president for academic affairs and dean of the university. "We are pleased that he has agreed to take this next step with us."

St. Andrews has been on the campus of Sandhills Community College since 1991, and the program serves as the backbone of the adult and professional studies program, a news release said. Adult and professional studies is dedicated to providing working adults with the opportunity to attain their educational goals in a flexible and intellectually stimulating environment.

Miles will be working with current directors Joe Bunting and William McConnell during a period of transition. Bunting will be returning to the classroom full time, while McConnell will be leaving for a position as the executive director of the Presbyterian Association of Musicians.

"I am thankful that I will have the opportunity to shadow Joe and Bill to see what they have done with the programs," Miles said. "We are going to remind the community that St. Andrews is here to stay and growing new opportunities. Our program at Sandhills is there to help."

Miles will be going out to the community in the coming months to determine what the needs are and how St. Andrews can better meet the educational needs of the adult professional.
