The Moore County Choral Society's 37th season is under way.

Twenty-five new members have joined the 100-plus member society for its 2011-2012 season. New members include Rochelle Boone, April Hershey, Janet McNeill, Becky Neal, David Rathbone, Joan Rathbone, Rollin Shaw and Molly Webster, all of Southern Pines; Julie Brito, Allen Coburn and Kathie Pezzi, all of Whispering Pines; Brenda Graham, of Rockingham; Linda Kreitz, of Carthage; David Mosley, of Laurinburg; Meredith Hawke and Zamir Sealy, both of Pinehurst; Kaley Brown, Ethan Garner and Cain Hall, all of Robbins; Seth Brady and Emily Brady, of Bennett; Ami Alexander and Louisa Heffehinher, both of Sanford; and Charlotte Ewing and Liza Myrick, both of West End.

The Moore County Choral Society, now in its 37th year, is a nonprofit organization that enriches cultural life in the Sandhills and surrounding areas by providing a high quality of music, preserving and advancing artistic excellence in the choral art and securing a way for the art of choral performance to be passed to future generations. Singers from all walks of life join the Choral Society to enjoy a sense of cultural and artistic community. The Society's next registration opportunity, for those interested in joining, will be Tuesday, Jan. 3.

Following tradition, the first concert of the 2011-2012 season is a festive one: "Sounds of the Season," a collection of holiday classics and seasonal music featuring Moore Brass, a brass quintet of local musicians and percussion.

"It is a wonderful opportunity for patrons to usher in the holiday season with family and friends," says a spokesman.

The holiday concert will be held on Sunday, Dec. 4, at 4 p.m. in Owens Auditorium at Sandhills Community College. The spring concert will feature Mozart's final work, the "Requiem," and will be held April 29, at the Robert E. Lee Auditorium at Pinecrest High School.
