Vike Netters Notch 5-4 Victory Over Pinecrest

Union Pines edged the Pinecrest Patriots by a 5-4 margin in a nonconference, cross-county girls' tennis clash Monday in Cameron.

The victory was the first for the Vikings girls over Pinecrest since 1994. Union Pines had dropped its previous five meetings against the Patriots' girls -- including a 5-4 loss last year.

Plenty of great tennis was played by both teams from the onset of the competition.

After a strikingly competitive singles' portion of the tilt, which featured four tie-breakers, the match was tied at 3-all with.

Next the contest moved to doubles action -- under the lights -- at John S. Frye Tennis Facilty.

With eight of the nine matches completed, the two teams were knotted at 4-4.

Ultimately, the Union Pines' duo of Melissa Tally and Madi Kramer earned an 8-4 doubles victory to claim the deciding point for the

homestanding Vikes.

With the victory, Union Pines' record improved to 15-0 , while Pinecrest's season mark moved to 8-3.
