Knife-Wielding Suspect Tries to Rob Pinehurst Hair Salon

A man brandishing a knife attempted to rob a Pinehurst hair salon Tuesday afternoon, police said.

The suspect entered Elaine’s Hairdressers on McCaskill Road about 5 p.m. and demanded cash from the two employees at the business, according to Capt. Floyd Thomas. He said the two employees told the man that they deal only with debit and credit cards and did not have any cash.

“He went back and forth with them and apparently just got frustrated because they didn’t have any cash and left,” Thomas said.

Thomas said the suspect, described as a heavy-set black man in his 40s, was wearing a toboggan and pulled up his green-and-white-striped shirt to conceal his face when entered the business. He said there were no customers there at the time, and no one was injured.

The man fled in a four-door white car, Thomas said, but police have no model or license tag number. Police searched the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.

The business is near the Pinehurst rescue squad and a couple of blocks away from the police station, Thomas said

He asked that anyone with information to contact Detective Daryl Bender at (910) 295-3141.

Wearing a toboggan?? Well, he shouldn't be too hard to find then -- a sled is kind of difficult to wear! lol

That would be a TOH-boggan. In Maryland a toboggan was a sled too.

We don't "Red-Up" like they do in Pennsylvania and we don't say "Youins" like in Pa., or "You'se guys" like they do in New York...but then again, we don''t try to change them. If we call it a toboggan, then by God, it is a tobbagan. If you don't like it, "Delta is ready when you are! "

By the way, I am glad the employees weren't harmed. I know they must still be frightened.

Amazing, Women held up by a man with a knife, not knowing what his thoughts would be when they have to tell the robber with the knife, they don't have any money. Wondering if they would be stabbed or mutilated or killed, if they couldn't produce any money or if the robber felt it wasn't enough a. nd get pissed off. Detetective Bender asking the public for help and then I read these posts? Wow ! I doubt the employees ended their interview with Detective Bender, with LOL or got out a dictionary to check their spelling of cap the robber with a KNIFE was wearing or were thinking of a comedy sit com. I hope you ladies are doing okay, that was close and damn right scarry. And hope Detective Bender and his associates can find this guy before he does more harm. Diane

Diane - Capt Tomas stated that the robber “...went back and forth with them and apparently just got frustrated because they didn’t have any cash and left,” The ladies were a little more savvy then the robber. Thomas also stated that there were no customers there at the time, and no one was injured. It appears the 2 ladies handled themselves quite well and have survived the ordeal. They are probably laughing at the inept robber now with their customers. They survived with nothing more than a little heart palpitations and no injuries. Why don't you go over there & check on them for yourself and get a new doo in the process.

The ladies and other shop owners should consider getting gun savvy, then invest a day with Dwight Creech and be prepared for future robbers who might not be so inept...case would also be closed for Captain Thomas....Mike
