A Candor woman was killed Monday morning when a tractor-trailer struck her vehicle on N.C. 211 just west of Seven Lakes, according to the State Highway Patrol.
Marisol V. Delgado, 41, who was driving west on N.C. 211 in a Dodge Durango SUV, attempted to make a U-turn in front of the entrance of McLendon Hill and was struck on the driver’s side door by the westbound tractor-trailer, according to Trooper Gary Grissom. The accident happened at 8 a.m.
“We have no idea why she slowed down and tried to make a U-turn,” Grisssom said.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, Kenneth Pilkington, of Pittsboro, attempted to move to the left to avoid hitting the SUV, Grissom said. After impact, the SUV traveled up a 20-foot embankment, he said.
Delgado was pronounced dead at the scene. She was the only one in the SUV. Pilkington was uninjured.
Grissom said speed was not a factor, and no charges were filed.
N.C. 211 was closed in that area for several hours as emergency responders worked to clear the scene.

Marisol leaves behind her husband and her 4 children - 3 sons and a daughter. I knew her from our church - Our Lady of the Americas in Candor. She was a lovely woman who was a devoted mother and wife.
May God have mercy on her soul, and be sure to keep her family in your prayers this Christmas Season.

This is a very sad story. Unfortunately, her family lost her at the time of year most of us are rejoicing and that poor truck driver is having a terrible time dealing with this incident as well. He just doesn't understand why everything happened the way it did and he has to live with that terrible image in his head forever. I feel sorry for all parties involved. This ladies poor family and kids must be devastated. My prayers to all involved.

Very sorry to hear about Mrs. Delgado and her family. However, how can the driver not be charged, whether the car was stopped, making a left turn or a U-turn, the truck driver failed to maintain control in the same lane as Mrs. Delgado's car. If she were stopped or making a left turn & the truck rear-ended her, he would be at fault, the U-turn should not have made a difference other then where the car was struck..

This is tragic, but you know trucks speed is always different than it seems I know truck drivers I've heard them say sometime it's the other car or them and they try not to hit people. It could have been a no U turn zone who knows that's why she may have had to stop could not make it with one turn. Don't put all the blame on the truck driver he tried to miss her.

The area may not be safe & maybe should be looked into. A young mother died few years ago near McClendin Hill when the trailer fishtailed & flipped over in the woods. Prayers to the Delgado family. Sorry for your loss.

Obviously for whatever reason Mrs Delgado either did not see the truck or misjudged its speed and distance from her, we will never know. I don't see how the truck driver given the info in the story could have been at fault. Sometimes an accident is just that, an accident. The end result does not change that.

How horrible and tragic. They need to put in a traffic light and have a warning about the upcoming light as well.

My thoughts and prayers to both parties as well. While I don't know the victim, I know the truck driver personally and he is a top-notch professional, and did all he could do with limited stopping time he had. Folks need to remember that big rigs going up and down 211 and elsewhere can't stop like a car or medium size pickup truck.
This is no place to scold either driver- one is deceased and the other will live with pain the rest of his life. Hwy 211 has and will claim many more lives- it is a horrible road system going through Moore Co. Big trucks have a job to do and there are a ton of feed trucks that service that area. Please recognize big trucks following you and give them plenty of notice before you make a turn.

The driver was obviously following too close or not paying attention.
NC Drivers Handbook states:
Following too closely is a leading cause of traffic crashes. Maintain plenty of space between your vehicle and the one ahead. If the vehicle ahead stops suddenly, you will need time to react. On the open road, keep enough distance between you and the vehicle ahead so that a passing vehicle can safely move into and occupy the space. Remember to follow the “two-second rule.”
The Two-Second Rule The “two-second rule” says that you should allow two seconds between the time the vehicle ahead of you passes a given point and the time your vehicle reaches the same point.
This was not an oncoming car situation but 2 vehicles traveling in the same direction, with the lead vehicle turning.

Courseaire, don't you think that if charges were warranted the investigating officer who is well versed in traffic regs and accident investigation would have charged the driver? Based on the information given it is illogical to assign blame to the truck driver. Why the need to affix blame?

There is no way you can say the driver was following too close. For all he knew, is she had pulled off to the side of the road, not even thinking she was going to pull back out in front and do a u-turn. From the photo, you can determine that she must of pulled off the road in order for the impact to be where it was. He could of been 10 seconds behind. It was just a really unfortunate incident.

Such a tragedy...May she be with God in his Glory, her children and her husband find peace in the heavenly Father...too may the truck driver find closure and peace.Just a reminder how life is so precious and we HAVE to be thankful EVERYDAY. I haven't found a lot of info on the service, can anybody let us know how we can pay our respect and help in any ways. Thanks
