Four Pinecrest High School volleyball players have been named to the All-Southeastern Conference team for their performances this past season.

Senior Callie Boone and juniors Felicia Painter, Megan Thomas and Keegan Lynch were selected from coach Barbara Foxx’s squad, which completed the season with an overall record of 21-9.

The Patriots finished 7-3 in the conference and earned a No. 2 seed in the state 4-A playoffs.

They defeated South View and a No. 1 seed, Garner, before losing to eventual state runner-up Hoggard in the third round.

The SEC Player of the Year was junior Caroline Pridgen of regular season and tournament conference champion Scotland High.

The league’s coach of the year was Union Pines graduate Corey Marks Deese of Purnell Swett.

At a team banquet last week, Thomas and Painter were honored as co-team MVPs in separate votes by teammates and coaches. Boone was voted most dedicated, and senior Samantha Creech was voted most improved.

Painter led the Patriots with 391 kills, including a season high of 26 against Garner.

Her attack percentage of 29 percent was the best on the team. She also led in total blocks with 76.

Thomas was tops in assists with 509, including a season best of 33 against Garner. She also led the team with 342 service points and tied sophomore Rae Nunez with 40 aces.

Nunez was the team leader with 186 digs, while serving for 310 points. Lynch recorded 181 digs and served for 253 points.

Boone served for 240 points to go along with 83 kills and 132 digs.

Junior Amber Goodwin was second in both kills with 266 and blocks with 38. Senior Ashleigh Welton’s all-around contributions included 116 kills, 249 service points and 110 digs.

Foxx now has 636 career wins at Pinecrest and counting. The Patriots overcame season-ending injuries to junior Janea Williams and sophomore Molly Maples, as well as other injuries that caused five or six more players to miss multiple matches.
