Robbins Woman Takes First in Weekly Football Contest

I went and watched the Carolina Panthers play football Sunday against Tennessee.

I don’t want to remember the Titans, and I have to admit that the Mildcats played about as well as I did picking last week. Yep, I was really hitting on all cylinders on my way to an 8-8 mark. It was the second week in a row that I claimed that mark.

But enough about me and my wasted Sunday afternoon in Charlotte and my wasted week (or should I say weeks) of prognosticating. Let’s talk about people who really know what they are doing when it comes to picking winners. People like Dorothy Brown of Robbins, a prognosticator that went 13-3 on the way to picking up the $50 check for the weekly winner.

Then there were a slew of people that went 12-4 for the week, including Bo McEachern of Pinehurst, Kevin Miller of Southern Pines, David Weaver of Southern Pines, Rich Wingfield, Paul VanHulle of Aberdeen, John Weaver of Southern Pines, James Tindall of Wagram, Ralph Tindall of Wagram, Dion Foster, Rick Kilroy of Southern Pines and Dick Kolke of Pinehurst.

Now, forget all about them except for McEachern and VanHulle because after turning to the tiebreaker game, a game that featured New England shutting up Rex Ryan (I mean, the Jets) by a 37-16 score for a total of 53 points those were the two left standing. Both McEachern and VanHulle had 52 points for their tiebreaker number.

So, going to the second tiebreaker (pulling a name out of a hat), the $30 second-place check went to the good Mr. Bo McEachern, while the third-place money of $20 went to VanHulle.

My 8-8 record made my season record a sterling (said tongue in cheek) 100-60. That record only puts me 13 games behind the overall leader, who just happens to be Seth Norris. Norris is 113-47 overall, while the mysterious L. Johnson, who was tied with Norris the last two weeks, is now one game back at 112-48. I got an email last week revealing who the mysterious L. Johnson really is: well, we’re going to leave it a mystery for at least another week.

I guess it’s time for me to make my latest effort in this picking game. I already know I’ve got at least one game right. In this week’s entry, the Miami vs. Florida State game isn’t really going to work, since they played last week, so everyone gets that game right (including me).

So my picks are St. Louis, Green Bay, Detriot, Jacksonville, Oakland, Miami, Washington, Baltimore, San Francisco, Atlanta, Michigan, Oklahoma, Texas, Florida State (I guarantee that is a winner), Oregon, Wisconsin.

Overall Standings

113-47 — Seth Norris
