Patriots Hoopfest Features Alumni Game

The highlight of Saturday’s first annual Patriots Hoopfest will be a basketball game between alumni from Pinecrest and Union Pines high schools.
The doors open at 5:45 p.m. for an evening of entertainment at James Moore Gym, starting with a slam dunk contest at 6 p.m. that is followed by a three-point contest.
Current Pinecrest players Traivon Williams and Javen McNeill are among those expected to participate in the dunking competition. Adam Cummings and Daquan McCrimmon of the Patriot boys, and Felicia Painter and Megan Thomas of the Patriot girls, are expected to be among those hoisting balls from behind the arc.
Also in the hour leading up to the 7 p.m. tip-off for the main event will be the introduction of the 2011-12 Pinecrest varsity boys’ basketball team led by first-year coach Andrew Lacey. That will be followed by the introduction of Pinecrest and Union Pines alumni.
The game will consist of two 20-minute halves. Among those suiting up for the Patriot team will be Hilary McLaurin, Lee Gatling, Raqqi Chalmers and Rocky Rhodes, a former teammate of Lacey at Bridgewater College (Va.). Viking alums are expected to include Alex Martin, Joey Frye, Timothy McCrimmon and Jeremy Kyle.
The Southern Middle School Step Team is scheduled to perform at halftime. Face painting will be available for elementary school- age children.
The admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students with IDs. Children 4 and under are admitted free.
