It is a new season at Hot and Healthy under the new ownership of Michelle Kaiser.

Hot and Healthy Yoga invites the community to its grand reopening Saturday at its new location at 169 Beverly Lane in the Market of Southern Pines by Fresh Market. Hot and Healthy Yoga has a wide offering of yoga classes.

"We are not just a hot yoga studio anymore," Kaiser said. "It is our desire to offer the opportunity that allows each student access to the practice that best fits their needs. Whether it is your desire to practice a cool gentle Hatha yoga or a hot power vinyasa, it is our goal to provide you with a supportive, safe, clean environment."

Yoga began thousands of years ago to not only improve the human condition but also to build up the community and to be community oriented. Kaiser said Hot and Healthy wishes to provide the synergy not only between the student and instructor but also between the studio and the community.

With its reopening coming the day after Veterans Day, the studio will hold its first "Salute the Troops Yoga Mala." This event will provide the community an opportunity to raise awareness, and honor and support service members.

Participants will seek sponsorship for the number of sun salutations they complete.

During a Yoga Mala, 108 Sun Salutations are performed. All proceeds will benefit the Wounded Warrior Project. This event will be outside weather permitting.

Kaiser said Hot and Healthy looks forward to not only providing the community with opportunities to support local nonprofits in the coming months but also in new ways of contributing to the health and well-being of the community. The studio recently held a Holistic Approach to Breast Cancer workshop by Jessica Patella.

During the month of November, the studio will offer Yoga Warriors, an evidenced-based yoga class for working with individuals diagnosed with combat and operational stress reaction (COSR) or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

The studio is fortunate to have two instructors who recently completed their teacher training through Yoga Warriors International. This program was developed by Lucy Cimini, the founding director of Central Mass Yoga and Wellness in West Boylston, Mass.

"We are extremely excited about being able to offer this class," Kaiser said. "Many of our instructors are married to service members. My husband is retired military. We all have friends that have been affected by life events, the war on terrorism, domestic violence, whatever it is. This class can be of great benefit to anyone who has suffered a traumatic experience."

She said the Yoga Warriors Method skillfully integrates concepts from yoga therapy, traditional yoga philosophy, psychology and sensory integration theory with current scientific knowledge of the mind-body connection to promote health, wellness and peace of mind from within.

Hot and Healthy Yoga will continue to grow its community efforts that were planted three years ago when it first opened, Kaiser said.
