A Monster That Won't Go Away

Isn’t it ironic that we have 12 million unemployed citizens in our country, and at the same time it is reported that we have 12 million illegal aliens residing here?

The logical solution to this problem is to make it unlawful to hire an illegal alien. We also have to change our laws to state that a child born here is not a citizen unless at least one of the parents is a citizen; this distinction prevails everywhere else in the world. These laws would have to be actively enforced.

I’m sorry to say that this probably will never happen for two reasons: One, the large organizations that hire these aliens want the cheap labor and they make the contributions to re-election campaigns; and two, the politicians are afraid of losing the Hispanic vote.

We have created the very monster that is eating us alive, and we are afraid to do anything about it.

You want to get rid of the Mexicans? Who do you think is going to do all the work needed to put food on your table? Americans are too lazy and don't want to work in fields and factories knee deep in chicken guts. Comments like yours are so ignorant.

How about coming up with a solution like allowing immigrants to be documented and work here on a temporary basis, pay taxes and can come back and forth from Mexico every year?

0

DaveyNC 1 year, 12 months ago

I think that solution exists. It's called a "visa".

0

dustyrhoades 1 year, 12 months ago

When someone uses terms like 'monster" to refer to illegal immigrants, they don't want solutions. They want genocide.

1

DaveyNC 1 year, 12 months ago

Oh, come on! Genocide? You're saying that the writer wants to slaughter 12 million people? Nonsense. He wants our laws against illegal immigration enforced.

What is it in the leftist mindset that whenever the topic of illegal immigration comes up, you just overlook the illegal aspect of the issue? Jeez, Dusty, you're a lawyer!

0

blake 1 year, 12 months ago

Discussion of illegal immigration in any critical manner is tough as too often people are quick to label it as racist. Dusty went even a step further to bring in genocide. I guess math is not the only thing Dusty isn't good at--logic and civility come to mind.

I have to agree with George. Too bad the politicians are too scared to stand up for our country.

0

SH59 1 year, 12 months ago

Politicians aren't scared, they know this country can't function without the immigrants.

1

Mark106 1 year, 11 months ago

This country isn't functioning properly WITH "ILLEGAL" immigrants!

0

blessherheart 1 year, 11 months ago

It has always had illegal immigrants.

0

SH59 1 year, 12 months ago

I'm serious, who do you think is going to do all the work Americans don't want to do? This is a reality to doing business in this country and those of you who think getting rid of the Mexicans is going to solve a problem don't understand anything about how lazy and entitled Americans are. This country would fall apart without the immigrant work force.

ninesyspup 1 year, 12 months ago

There is always someone that tries to make a moutain out of a molehill when someone has a different opinion. Let us remember that these 12,000,000 illegal immigrants committing criminal acts by just being here. By chance if they have a job it was illegally obtained. There are probably several more criminal acts ( too many for me to mention)In my humble opinion it should be considered Child Abuse to force a child to live as a criminal with the fear they could be taken into custody at any time. If a Citizen used a child to abet a criminal effort the children would removed from their custody.

Maybe these states that are enacting illegal immigrant laws are right. If the Federal government will not honor its constitutional responsibility someone should. The Federal government is responsible for 12,000,000 people living in a criminal status in this country.

0

SH59 1 year, 12 months ago

And who do you suggest should go out into the fields to do back breaking work if you force the immigrants out? Our economy would fall apart.

0

DaveyNC 1 year, 12 months ago

I would suggest that anyone who wants to do that work should go and do it. If that happens to be someone from another country, then set them up with some type of work visa.

No, our economy would not fall apart. Economies are wonderfully self-adjusting, if the politicians leave them alone. Which, I know, is not likely.

0

ninesyspup 1 year, 11 months ago

The 12,000,000 unemployed. What a novel idea. A great job is not promised. You take the jobs available. That's the solution. It's better than having 12,000,000 illegal immigrants living in a criminal status.

I mean, why should illegal immigration be illegal?

Just how much are those illegal immigrants costing our country in free healthcare and other benefits? How much are our citizens losing from theft and other crimes?

This train of thought may be totally wrong, but let's consider the follow: Let's suppose that those who argue that most Americans, even those out of work and with families, will not do the backbreaking and long hours work that illegal immigrants do for the paltry pay they receive. Let's further suppose that all those outraged citizens who decry the presence of 10-15 million illegal immigrants in our country would be willing to pay an extra 25 cents for a head of lettuce and other hand picked produce and an extra 20-50 thousand dollars for the cost of a new home if Americans filled the jobs that illegal immigrants now do for minimum wage and without any kind of benefits, such has health insurance. Instead, let's suppose that employers agree to increase these pay scales by 30%, or more and offer health insurance, a 401k, and pay into unemployment and workers compensation. Problem solved? I wonder?

The United Farm Workers web site quotes:

Agriculture in the United States is dependent on an immigrant workforce. Three-quarters of all crop workers working in American agriculture were born outside the United States. According to government statistics, since the late 1990s, at least 50% of the crop workers have not been authorized to work legally in the United States.

You want to get a job? Here's the job description:

** Job may include using hand tools such as knives, hoes, shovels, etc. Duties may include tilling the soil, transplanting, weeding, thinning, picking, cutting, sorting & packing of harvested produce. May set up & operate irrigation equip. Work is performed outside in all weather conditions (Summertime 90+ degree weather) & is physically demanding requiring workers to bend, stoop, lift & carry up to 50 lbs on a regular basis.

Who's going to fill these jobs?

0

2centsworth 1 year, 11 months ago

I do this kind of work now. There are lots of Americans who do outside jobs under these conditions. Ever wonder how you power gets restored after storm damage? It's not by illegal immigrants. Not everyone can have a cushy office job.

Let's review the facts: 1) There are legal Hispanic immigrants in this country. 2) There are illegal Hispanic aliens in this country. 3) The illegal Hispanic aliens can be broken into two groups: A) Those here to find work to support their families (75% ??), and B) Those here to commit crimes (25% ??). 4) Those here to commit crimes can be broken down into two groups: A) Those here for the drug trade (90% ??), and B) All the rest (10% ??).

My estimate is that nearly every legal Hispanic immigrant is here to work and earn money to support their families. I believe that the vast majority of those here illegally are also here to work and earn money and the ONLY way they can accomplish this is to be hired by an AMERICAN businessman. And the only way the criminal Hispanic element can exist is because AMERICANS create the demand for the drug trade. Lets quit trying to shift blame..the problem is us!!

MikeNC 1 year, 11 months ago

I can see you and this administration get along wonderfully...Somehow or another it can all be broke down; in some way...Everything bad and evil is always America's fault. My hope is that American citizens will finally get sick and tired of that kind of dribble being directed at them.....Mike

0

SH59 1 year, 11 months ago

Mike, you don't see what JER is saying? If Americans didn't support the drug trade then there wouldn't be any drug dealers. If Americans were willing to work then there wouldn't be any jobs available for illegal immigrants. When you start attacking a person's character instead of entering into the conversation you really have nothing to say. Try coming up with some thoughtful contributions to the discussion.

0

MikeNC 1 year, 11 months ago

I think I see and said it pretty accurately SH59. We all develop a sort of negative or positive track record in what we say on this open forum. This track record predicts fairly accurately when commenting on what is being said by individuals. JER's track record on such topics normally slants in favor of what I just said....no attacking his character took place.

And I see with your comments on this thread alone; you have a pretty good start on identifying your own track record of how you feel about America and her citizens.....Mike

0

JER 1 year, 11 months ago

Everything bad and evil is not the fault of America. Only some of it.

0

MikeNC 1 year, 11 months ago

JER....Please provide a list of the bad and evil that is America's fault....Mike

0

JER 1 year, 11 months ago

This is your idea of a "thoughtful contribution to the conversation"? Asking me to provide a list so that you don't have to think? Oh, that's right, I forgot. You come from a culture that didn't require you to think. Which makes "not able to think" item one on the list of of bad and evil things that can be found in America. And Mike, to prove this point, you should know that the only Americans having "dribble" directed at them are basketball players. What you directed at me was "drivel", which, according to the dictionary, means to "talk foolishly".

0

MikeNC 1 year, 11 months ago

So did I James...Perhaps I could have made it an easier task for JER by asking him to provide his personal list of those bad and evil things that are NOT America's fault....My bad. At least JER once again took me to the wood shed for my grammar LOL ...Mike

Mr. Pence asks: "Isn’t it ironic that we have 12 million unemployed citizens in our country, and at the same time it is reported that we have 12 million illegal aliens residing here?" Which seems to presume that the 12 million illegal aliens displaced the 12 million Americans. Hard to believe. From the unemployment reports, it seems that the unemployment is greatest in the skilled construction, manufacturing and professional workforce, not your typical "alien" types of jobs. Actually, the economy is so bad even the "aliens" have been laid off. In NC, golf course workers have been laid off, poultry farms are going out of business.

1

ninesyspup 1 year, 11 months ago

The 75% stated above are here to commit crimes. To cross the border illegally is a crime. To get a job without proper documentation is a crime. What part of this is not understandable?

Let these 12,000,000 illegal immigrants march on Mexico City to demand change as the people in the Middle East are doing.

What great things might be accomplished?

They could build up their own nation with pride instead of being in this country as criminals.

WHAT A CONCEPT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

0

SH59 1 year, 11 months ago

Not a bad idea.

0

MikeNC 1 year, 11 months ago

That is an excellent idea. I'm sure that Mexican President Felipe Calderon will be fair, impartial and respectful towards his people. It would be interesting to see how a week of rage works out for his people and the betterment of mexico itself. When he addressed our congress last year he said.."What we need today is to fix a broken and inefficient system," speaking of US border policy of course, not his policy. And he vented against Arizona's decision to tighten their border security amidst cheers from the democratic congressmen and women. Possibly if he fixed what occurs in mexico, his people would see no need in crossing that "fence". ....Mike

Maybe the 12 million unemployed are the 12 million illegal aliens. Who knows?

0

Yes those 12 million immigrants aliens sure have great jobs picking fruit. Sseriosly, do you think they are working on Wall Street and in advertising firms?

0

MikeNC 1 year, 11 months ago

It is President Felipe Calderón's duty to figure out how and then provide gainful employment for his Mexican residents....Not Ours. It is currently President Obama's duty to figure out how and then to provide the opportunity for gainful employment for American citizens...Not Mexico's. It seems that both Calderon and Obama are delinquent in their duties. Doesn't even appear that either are even making a logical attempt in doing such.....Mike

Many criminal aliens work under the table and do not report their wages-then they go and get all kinds of free benefits for their children. That's what's breaking the bank. The "language barrier" enables them to act like they don't understand the rules. Many speak and understand just fine.

0

sgmartin 1 year, 11 months ago

So what's the plan to get rid of the 12 million headed monster to return employment to 100% for all WASPs? Really I am interested...

0

JER 1 year, 11 months ago

Great ideas, James. And they would probably eventually work if it were not for the fact that your crowd favors a much smaller government. You realize your plan requires government workers from many different departments, working in a close, coordinated fashion. Perhaps you should hold off on your plan until your candidate wins the presidential election because, as you and your kind have repeated ad nauseam, Obama would not be capable of running such a complicated and important program. Once your favorite is elected (who is it, by the way?), the new administration can dismantle government and turn over the implementation of your ideas to private industry, where businessmen can make money and you can own stock in their companies and become fabulously wealthy and have a house in the south of France (or in South America where you sometimes travel). Let's see, You could have Cheney's old company build the wall, you could get the folks at the old Blackwater to man the gun turrets and be responsible for rounding up all the illegals who hid. This would also solve the problem of transportation (if Blackwater does it, chances are there will be no need for any transportation). The folks at Fox News could issue all the paperwork required and maybe you could get Rush to collect the fines. Yes, indeed, problem solved!!

0

Ross 1 year, 11 months ago

jimmie - "The border fence is built by private contractors, and the money has already been allocated. "

I am wondering where you get this information? And IF it is allocated - why spend it at the border where it will always be impossible to control - even with a ton of government $$.

I do agree that the ONLY way is to go to the source - the people that hire them. But - that is big business and we know how republicans are when they are involved.

Now - if you and mauiman are volunteering to go guard the borders - I will buy you flashlights.....

0

JER 1 year, 11 months ago

James, Dusty is correct, you have a reading comprehension problem. I stated that your side favors "much smaller" federal, state and local governments, which, if the right had it's way, would mean that the government would have less ability to implement your proposals. I did not say that for the plan to work, larger government would be needed. And can we take your comment that this plan "has been advocated by many conservatives for years" to mean that the Busch administration did nothing about it back when conservatives were completly in control? Evidently it's only recently become a crisis when Hispanics helped elect Obama. So, according to you, all the necessary funding to completly secure our borders along the Mexican and Canadian borders has already been put into a checking account and all we need to do is hire some private contractors to finish building the fence, or wall or moat or whatever the hell it is that you think will keep people out. I'll assume that this money that is available is "government" money that we don't have and can't afford and probably borrowed from China (that is the rights current line, isn't it?) And the drones, will they cost any borrowed money? Will they be operated out of the AFB in Tampa like we do for the other wars we've got going on? Will the Air Force personnel just work an extra two hours a week to operate these drones so we can hide that cost in the defense budget. And the states (which are governments, too) can clean up the bodies of the illegals taken out by the drones while being supervised by the Border Patrol agents. The idea of punishing anyone who hires an illegal alien is a program that I can get on board with. But it is a little more complicated than having the states "take measures to stop the sanctuary cities" as you call them. There are also "sanctuary towns", "sanctuary villages", "sanctuary farms" and, of course, "sanctuary rich peoples homes". So the states, who are all currently bankrupt and laying off teachers, are suppose to find the money and manpower to "take measures". Oh, but wait, you say that none of this will cost anybody anything. It can all be accomplished with no additions to any budgets. It won't...but you already knew that.

commonsense77 1 year, 11 months ago

Just a few small facts the number of unemployed recognized by the Bureau of Labor Statistics is 13.7 but what is 1.7 million people when you are speaking from hate? Any cognizant person knows that number is much higher as people have fallen off unemployment. Now the latest Pew research show that there are 11.2 million only 800,000 short of the writes number. Now being 2.5 million off the true numbers at stake one can see our problem lies in math education, not illegal immigration.

We have allowed skilled jobs to leave this country at an alarming rate and most Americans don't want to do the jobs the 'illegal monsters' do so let's cripple our economy by kicking hard working men and women who work to support family out.
