Aberdeen police charged a West End man with driving while impaired in connection with a two-vehicle accident Thursday morning on N.C. 5.

Godfrey Kemble Wilson, 46, was driving a white 1994 GMC Jimmy on N.C. 5 near the Dollar General and Wilco Hess convenience store, when he crossed the center line and hit an on-coming 2006 Hyundai driven by Joseph Eric Louro, of Aberdeen, police said.

After impact, Wilson's vehicle flipped on its roof and came to rest in the middle of the road. The accident happened around 9:30 a.m.

Tequan Chalmers, of Southern Pines, was a passenger in Wilson's vehicle, police said.

No one was seriously injured in the accident, but police did close one lane of N.C. 5 after the accident.

While the scene of the accident is closer to Pinehurst, the area - which includes the nearby Pinehurst Plaza shopping center - is actually in the Aberdeen town limits. Aberdeen took that area in through a satellite annexation years ago.
