Home probably never looked so good to Scotty McCreery.
McCreery, one of the three remaining finalists on “American Idol,” arrived back in his hometown of Garner last weekend to enjoy a parade, followed by a concert. And during the concert, the surprise was on McCreery as, when he began to sing “Your Man,” the Josh Turner song that he has often performed this season, he was joined onstage by none other than Josh Turner himself. The two finished the song together.
“Thanks for singing my songs,” Turner told McCreery, who responded, “Thank you for singing them first.”
McCreery and Turner then teamed up to give the crowd a rendition of “Long, Black Train.”
McCreery is the grandson of Bill and Paquita McCreery, of Aberdeen. His aunt, Tina Creech, and her husband, Billy (a Garner native himself), live in Pinehurst along with their two daughters.
Not only did McCreery get to relieve his craving for chicken and sweet tea, but he also got an opportunity to attend a portion of his school’s prom as well as spend a little bit of time with family and friends.
In last Wednesday’s competition, McCreery performed “Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning)” by Alan Jackson and “Young Blood,” written by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller.
This week, McCreery will sing the 1979 Kenny Rogers hit “She Believes in Me,” which was selected by the judges, as well as a song of his own choice and one picked by Jimmy Iovine.
