Young Eagles have to learn to fly, and that's the intent of an event at the Moore County Airport this Saturday, May 21. Any student from age 8-17 can experience the freedom of flight by coming to the airport from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for a free airplane ride. The event is open to all children. Prospective passengers and future pilots should report to the main terminal of the airport for sign-ups. Parental permission is required to go up. There is free parking for the event. The rain date is Sunday, May 22.
"This is a great event for young people," said Ron Maness, executive director of the Moore County Airport. "We think it's a learning experience for them, and part of growing up in these modern times. They learn about their community from a different perspective, and about the joys of air travel. It's an exciting event in the lives of a lot of kids, and something they never forget. We're really proud to be a part of it."
The event is sponsored by Young Eagles Program of the E.A.A Chapter #1220, the Moore County Airport Authority, and Pinecrest High School AFROTC. Lunch is sponsored by Boy Scout Troop #810. Groups who would like to register should contact Jim Murray at 910-638-5774 or visit www.pinehurst@live.com for arrangements.
