Preparation is under way for the widening of N.C. 211, and one of the first steps in the project is removing trees along the highway.
The work is expected to take two to three weeks.
The trees are being cut down to make room for utility relocation along the road.
The N.C. Department of Transportation is overseeing the project that will widen N.C. 211 between West End and Pinehurst. The project was presented to the public in 2006. Several revisions were made in late 2010.

Quick! Where are the tree people that protected the deodora tree at the restaurant site in Southern Pines? I'm sure someone will have something to say about our wonderful pine trees being cut down. This, of course, is required for safety and may be within the right of way and easements already in place.

Get a real by pass around 211, from Candor to US 1.

there is a difference between cutting trees down for a road and cutting trees down for greed. We have to cut trees down for the road, but the owner of the deodora tree did not have to cut down his tree for a restaurant. He could have found a better piece of land without a tree.

Great! Make the speed limit signs bigger too. A hundred times I've been behind knuckleheads going 10 miles under the speed limit.
