When are those places that purchase the copper wire going to be required to get proof of ownership of the wire?

Shame the story did not read....and the farmer thought they had gone for a weapon and left them there on the floor!! I know times are hard, but stealing is stealing, and should not be tolerated!!

True, times are hard-they are even harder on farmers than on theives. The only difference is a few hundred dollars in copper wire costs the farmer thousands because the theives have destroyed the whole wiring system and it will all have to be redone.

Wire isn't the only thing being stolen...copper pipes from under houses, from water heaters, heat pumps and everything the thieves can get their hands on.

My husband works for an AC warehouse and they are constantly replacing residential AC units because people are cutting the copper coil out of them and they wake up the next morning and their units are trashed. It's very sad that people are resorting to these measure and you know they will get probation and be out again to keep doing it.

If you steal copper, where do you sell it? Seems like that's the place to start to shut this down. No buyers, why steal it?

Well we really don't want to shut down a needed service just because of the people that abuse it do we?....recycling is a vital service and the honest people in the world do need somewhere to sell or scrap these materials...but we do need better regulation of the buyers so there is enough rules and regulations to make it harder for these crooks to make an easy buck...
