UP Soccer Runs Win Streak to 18

The winning streak continues for the Union Pines girls’ soccer team.

The Vikings (18-1) netted their 18th straight win Thursday with a 6-0 home victory over Southern Lee to remain perfect in Cape Fear Valley Conference Play.

Union Pines opens the NCHSAA 3A state playoffs Tuesday with a home match against Big East conference four-seed Northern Nash (10-7-2) at 6 p.m.

Thursday, Madi Kramer scored a first-half hat trick as the Vikes tallied five times in the opening stanza.

Carly Lively, Jessica Wlordarski and Catie Driver also scored.

Kramer, a sophomore forward/midfielder leads the Vikings with 21 goals.

Along with her goal Lively had two assists Thursday. The junior captain leads Union Pines with 18 assists and is currently second on the squad in scoring with 16 goals.

The Vikings have outscored their opponents 75-10 this season. Ten of those wins have come via shutout.

The Vikings' 12-0 record in CFVC play marked the second time in five seasons Union Pines’ completed an undefeated league campaign. The 2007 Vikes went 14-0 in league play back when the CFV was an eight-team conference.

Last year the Lady Vikings advanced to the third round of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association 3A playoffs.
