Friday's Homegrown on the Village Green will feature a special twist to draw more people to downtown Pinehurst.
In addition to the farmers market, the event will feature child-friendly activities, live music and a tie-in with downtown businesses.
"It's Homegrown on the Village Green with some extras," said Molly Goodman, a senior planner with the village of Pinehurst. "We are trying to integrate the (farmers) market with the village center."
To do that, visitors will be given a chance to win a free round of golf for four on Pinehurst No. 8, courtesy of Pinehurst Resort.
To be eligible for the prize, an individual must pick up and fill out an entry ticket from one of three specially marked booths downtown. They must take the ticket to the farmers market and have it signed by a vendor booth that they visit.
From there they must take it to a village center business and have it signed before returning it to the marked booth.
Goodman said the drawing will be held after the market closes at 1 p.m. Registrants don't need to be present to win, she said.
The band Java Mules will perform. There will be live cooking demonstrations and free samples provided by farmers market vendors.
Students from Pinehurst Elementary School will walk to the market on the newly completed greenway trails.
There will also be storytelling for children age 5 and younger on the Village Green behind the farmers market. If it rains, storytelling will be held in the Given Memorial Library.
The farmers market is held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Friday through September in the sand parking lot on Village Green Drive West in downtown Pinehurst.
The market always feature a variety of vendors selling an array of fresh foods and other items. Vendors are all members of the Sandhills Farmers Green Market.
