Osama bin Laden, sought for nearly 10 years after he masterminded the 9/11 terrorist attacks, was shot to death Sunday afternoon when a CIA-led Navy SEALs squadron of just a few dozen men stormed his compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan.

President Obama announced the results of the top-secret operation late Sunday night, calling it the most significant blow to Al Qaeda to date. Within hours, Bin Laden's body was buried at sea.

I hope from the time he heard the choppers until the bullet struck his head he was terrified knowing his life was about to end.

Shot in the face, fitting. Maybe they wrapped him in bacon before throwing him overboard. Nah our guys are much to profesional for that. I hate that I even just thought that, but that s.o.b. was the worst form of humanity in my lifetime.

A great big THANK YOU to our Navy Seals and all of our military support teams. In accordance to Islamic law, bin Laden was provided a watery grave. With that said, each time our warriors take to the seas, if they would pay tribute to Osama by leaning over the rail of their ship, and taking a Whiz for me and all Americans. This Whiz is for you Osama: ~~~~~~~~~.......

I should have said, "within 1 day [24 hours], Islamic law dictates burial".

May 1st, 1945 was also the day that we received conformation that Adolph Hitler was dead!

I think May 1st should now be a national holiday.

Is that why the radio signal of distress is "mayday, mayday"?

0

dustyrhoades 2 years ago

I'd always heard that it was because "m'aidez!" is French for 'help me!", but never why calling for help in French makes any sense.

0

DaveyNC 2 years ago

Because the French are experts at calling for help.

Well done, troops. Well done, intelligence operatives. Well done, Commander in Chief.

Let's be clear on this: OBAMA did NOT kill Bin Laden. An American soldier, who Obama just a few weeks ago was debating on whether or not to PAY, did. Obama just happened to be the one in office when our soldiers finally found him and took him out. This is NOT an Obama victory, but an AMERICAN victory!! These are MY sons out there giving their lives so that we can sit here safely and reply. And it is their Families who were wondering If they would be able to pay their bills. Therefore it is an American Victory!

Why don't you grow up. Spend less time focusing on hating Obama and more time on real issues. You have the right to hate whomever you choose, but jeez give it a rest, most people are tired of hearing it.

Well said! Growing up is simply hard for some people!

Yes, American soldiers did follow the orders of their Commander-in-Chief, the President of the United States of America, and their mission was accomplished. The military was doing their job...following the President's orders. That's what my father, a 44 year veteran of two branches of the military and WWII, Europe, Pacific, Korea, Vietnam, Master Pilot and Master Diver, always said. Obama is the elected leader of our country and ultimately responsible for this mission. As Harry Truman said "the buck stops here"

she got this straight from Facebook. Apparently someone has started this childishness there. President Obama gave the orders. Without those orders OBL would not be dead right now. If you can't handle that, too bad. Every person involved said that President Obama made a "gutsy" call by not giving the order to bomb the place but to go in instead to collect any intelligence. As someone else said "grow up." To be clear the Republicans were the only party threatening a gov't shut down. To also be clear the Democrats brought three bills to the House floor during that time that would have regardless of whether the gov't was shut down or not kept the military pay going and the Republicans voted it down each time. Stop copying from facebook, and come up with an original idea for yourself. It is doubtful that you have anybody serving with such an idiotic statement you posted. President Obama is the commander in chief and members of the military know that. Get over yourself.

shadeysmom, you have issues. not one person commenting on this article has said Obama killed Bin Laden, NOT ONE!!! get over it and move on.

shadeysmom May 3, 2011 at 6:51 a.m. Yes ~ "let's be clear on this..." no sitting President takes up arms and goes to a foreign country to apprehend or kill and enemy combatant. "…few weeks ago was debating on whether or not to PAY" and exactly how did that workout? Doesn't a bill passed in Congress have to go to the Senate and passed in both houses before the president can veto a bill? Correct me here if I'm wrong.

"This is NOT an Obama victory, but an AMERICAN victory!! These are MY sons out there giving their lives so that we can sit here safely and reply." Have you taken the time before posting a thread to read the Constitution? POTUS'O is the Commander-in-Chief of our armed forces - like it or not. Give Obama a break...bin Laden was Killed on his watch not anyone elses’...deal with it!

NO Toda shadeysmom just copied what the wingers have going around on Facebook urging others to "copy and paste" it in their status if they agree.

0

None 2 years ago

Yes, last evening I was on FB with one of my nieces who I love very much, and had to respond to the same agree/copy/paste. Then it became an exchange with her husbands' wife's cousin in Wisconsin. I just shut it down. FB can be a political balywick at times. Try CNN boards on FB sometime...only the die hard threaders dare tread on those boards....go practice and have some fun.

I hate agreeing on any with toda and I dislike Obama even more. But on this one issue I will have to agree with him and Obama.

Why is politics even an issue here? The monster mastermind of murder & terrorism is dead after nearly 10 years. This should bring some closure for the families who lost loved ones on 9-11 2001. I do not think this brings an end to terrorism but it sends a message that we do not tolerate it.

0

debsalomon 2 years ago

Not to rain on this glorious parade, but we've all got to pray that another lethal attack isn't close enough to fruition for a crazed underling to push the button. Or a sicko wannabe decides to follow the leader...and starts a chain reaction. Terrorism isn't dead, just Bin Laden.

0

nolabel 2 years ago

But they did find a lot of intelligence. I just saw on the CBS evening news that two phone numbers were found sewn into his clothing. These numbers were evidently key to some conversations he had been having. They also found hard drives that were encrypted and are trying to decode that information, and flash drives. This information will probably be of great value. The women that were there are locked up in Pakistan although without the US leading the interrogations I don't know what we can expect because I don't think we can trust Pakistan, but we need them because they are our supply route through Afghanistan.

My blogger-mates...isn't it gratifying to know that 6 days ago the worlds most wanted mass murder and terrorist was gunned down by our Warriors ~ The elite Navy Seals VI team stationed just minutes down the road in Fayetteville/Fort Bragg. Five of those days bin Laden’s' lifeless body lay in the bottom of the ocean where the sharks, crabs, and sea urchins feasted on his corps. Now Osama bin Laden is no more than fish “poop” fertilizing the reefs to add underwater beauty to a natural environment. Go Navy Seals Team VI....
