Scotty McCreery hopes he has captured America's heart, allowing him to stay alive in "American Idol."

McCreery, who is the grandson of Aberdeen residents Bill and Paquita McCreery, provided a blistering rendition of Travis Tritt's "Can I Trust You With My Heart" in Wednesday's edition of the popular Fox television show.

Randy Jackson, one of the judges on the show who played musically with Tritt, told McCreery that "you did Travis Tritt proud."

McCreery and the other 11 contestants left on the show each performed a song from the year they were born. McCreery, a high school student from Garner, was born in 1993.

Tonight's 8 p.m. broadcast of the show will reveal who is the latest contestant to be knocked off the show.
